The Federal Polytechnic, Ayede emerged during a period when Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape faced significant pressures. Funding limitations, escalating student enrollment demands, and a heightened emphasis on technical and vocational training presented considerable hurdles. For a brand-new institution, these challenges were amplified by the concurrent necessity of developing academic programs, constructing infrastructure, implementing administrative systems, and fostering an institutional culture. The task before the pioneer leadership was thus immense, extending beyond mere management to the critical work of building the physical and systemic frameworks essential for future growth.

This stands in contrast to many other institutions established concurrently, which have been hampered by infrastructure deficits and continue to operate from temporary sites.
The Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, however, did not permit infrastructure challenges to impede its progress. To address these needs, the polytechnic erected more than 15 blocks of classrooms and installed essential facilities at its permanent site. Concurrently, the temporary site at Iresa Pupa remained fully operational, accommodating approximately 2,000 students. This impressive enrollment figure is particularly noteworthy, as these students will also benefit from the completed facilities at the permanent site.
A physical inspection by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumagege III, Soun of Ogbomoso, underscored the rector’s dedication to developing the permanent site in Ayede. Despite resource constraints, the administration demonstrated strategic prioritization. Instead of pursuing rapid, unsustainable expansion, the focus remained on functional facilities that directly supported teaching, learning, and administrative activities. These incremental improvements across the campus fostered a growing sense of identity and purpose among both staff and students, bolstering confidence in the institution’s future trajectory.
A Collaborative and Consultative Leadership Style
Equally significant was the leadership approach adopted during this formative period. Dr. Abdul-Hammed’s calm, consultative style, bolstered by the diligence of the Principal Officers, fostered an environment of dialogue and consensus-building.
