Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes wasted no time in poking fun at arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur following their comprehensive 4-1 defeat in the recent North London derby. The Brazilian centre-back took to social media shortly after the match, sharing a picture of himself on the team coach, clearly revelling in the victory.
In the image, Gabriel, sporting his Gunners tracksuit, was seen returning from the stadium with a collection of items that highlighted the dominant performance. He posed with his man-of-the-match award, a bag of M&Ms, a can of Rio, and, most tellingly, a set of playing cards. The number four on the cards was deliberately turned towards the camera, a clear and cheeky reference to the four goals Arsenal put past a hapless Spurs side.
The 4-1 scoreline was a significant result, mirroring Tottenham’s defeat by the same margin in the reverse fixture just three months prior. This latest drubbing saw Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres each net a brace, further compounding Tottenham’s woes.
Gabriel’s post was met with an enthusiastic response from his teammates. Captain Declan Rice showed his amusement by commenting with five laughing emojis and three heart emojis. However, the light-hearted jab might not have landed well with everyone. Gabriel’s Brazil teammate, Richarlison, who plays for Tottenham and came on as a substitute in the derby, appeared to be subtly tagged in the post, a detail that didn’t escape the notice of some sharp-eyed fans.

This online exchange continues a pattern of light-hearted banter between Gabriel and Richarlison that began last July. At that time, Richarlison posted a picture of his own man-of-the-match award and tagged Gabriel after Tottenham secured a 1-0 victory over Arsenal in a friendly match in Hong Kong.
Gabriel’s response on that occasion was equally spirited. He retaliated by posting a photograph showcasing the three previous man-of-the-match awards he had earned against Spurs. These included an award from a thrilling 3-2 win in the 2023-24 season and from both victories in the subsequent season. Now, he has another prestigious award to add to his collection following the recent derby triumph.
The defender further amplified his celebratory mood after the 4-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium in November. Although Gabriel was sidelined with a hamstring injury and unable to participate in that particular match, he still found a way to mark the occasion.
