Louis Walsh’s Cowell Feud: Scathing Rant Reveals All

Louis Walsh Spills the Tea on His Fallout with Simon Cowell

The usually tight-lipped world of music industry rivalries has been blown wide open, with veteran judge Louis Walsh unleashing a fiery rant that seemingly lays bare the reasons behind his fractured relationship with former boss and music mogul, Simon Cowell. Walsh, a familiar face alongside Cowell on The X Factor, has publicly stated that Cowell has cut all contact, while also taking aim at Cowell’s latest musical venture, the boyband December 10.

Walsh, 73, didn’t mince words, even casting a critical eye over ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent, where he recently appeared as a guest judge. He declared the show has lost its former glory, lamenting, “BGT, who cares?! It’s not what it was. Back in the old days, it was pulling in 12 million, and the whole country cared who won. Now it doesn’t feel like that. Who even won last year?” This sentiment highlights a perceived decline in the show’s cultural impact and public engagement.

As the longest-serving judge on The X Factor, Walsh’s criticism extended to Cowell himself, whom he labelled a “has-been.” He elaborated, “Cowell was incredible in his prime; I just don’t think he’s got that same instinct now.” Walsh believes Cowell is no longer receiving candid feedback, stating, “He’s a family man now; Lauren’s in charge of his diary, and his phone, I’ve not heard from him in years.” This suggests a perceived shift in Cowell’s priorities and a lack of direct communication with long-time collaborators.

The Root of the Feud: A Snub from Netflix?

The latest reports suggest that Walsh’s ire stems from being excluded from Cowell’s recent Netflix project. Instead of enlisting Walsh, Cowell reportedly brought back Pete Waterman, a fellow judge from the early days of Pop Idol. A source close to the situation revealed, “Louis is very bitter because Simon didn’t get him involved with his new group. He feels like he should have reached out and been asked to help. In his mind, he has the most experience and expertise out of everyone Simon was working for.”

This perceived snub hit Louis particularly hard. The insider further explained that Walsh had “took it for granted that he’d be called upon,” making the exclusion feel like a “real snub,” especially when his old acquaintance Pete Waterman’s involvement was confirmed. “Louis is livid about it and won’t hold back on speaking his mind,” the source added, speculating that Walsh’s public criticism of Britain’s Got Talent is a deliberate move to provoke Cowell, who is reportedly already concerned about the show’s declining ratings. “His criticism will have been a kick in the teeth.”

Doubts Cast on December 10

Walsh also didn’t hold back his opinion on December 10, the seven-piece boyband assembled on The Next Act with the explicit aim of filling the void left by One Direction. Walsh quipped, “December 10, they should have been called April 1st.” While expressing a genuine hope for the boys’ success, he acknowledged the harsh reality of the industry: “I genuinely hope it works, for the boys’ sake. I know what it’s like when things don’t take off — it’s the artists who feel it.”

A History of Controversial Comments

This isn’t the first time Louis Walsh has been at the centre of a public spat. Former X Factor contestants Jedward previously branded the Pop Idol judge “cold-hearted and two-faced.” The Grimes twins, who rose to fame on the show in 2009 and were managed by Walsh until 2013, spoke out about their experience. They claimed, “We treated Louis with kindness and respect, but he took advantage of our easy-going nature and ultimately didn’t have the best intentions for us to evolve as artists. He’s known for being b***hy and gossiping about everyone.” They further alleged, “We aren’t alone: many other acts have had similar experiences with him. No one needs the negativity trying to stop you from being the best version of yourself.”

Celebrity Big Brother Gossip

During his stint in the Celebrity Big Brother house in March, Walsh, alongside Sharon Osbourne, frequently engaged in gossip sessions. Osbourne, 73, also made comments about Cowell, suggesting he “doesn’t know how to keep friends.” In response to these remarks, Cowell told the Daily Mirror that he still considers both Sharon and Louis “really good friends” and that their comments were “quite funny.” He acknowledged that their behaviour was to be expected given their participation in the show, stating, “If you put Sharon and Louis in the house, that’s what you pay them for; they’re going to be controversial.” Cowell even suggested he might reach out to them soon, as he hadn’t spoken to them in a while.
