Wolves Target Talent with Championship Proven Track Record

Wolves Join the Chase for Anthony Patterson

Wolves are among several clubs reportedly interested in signing Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson this summer. The club is currently evaluating its options as it prepares for the upcoming Championship campaign. According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, Sunderland is open to considering offers for the 26-year-old, with Wolves, Wrexham, and Millwall all showing interest. Patterson is believed to be valued at £8 million following a strong loan spell with Millwall.

Patterson spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Millwall, making 16 appearances and helping the team reach the Championship play-offs. His performances have reignited interest in a player who was once considered one of the most promising young goalkeepers outside the Premier League.

A Familiar Name for Wolves

This is not the first time that Wolves have been linked with Patterson. Reports from 2023 suggested the Midlands club had been keeping an eye on his progress during Sunderland’s return to the Championship. At the time, Patterson had established himself as Sunderland’s first-choice goalkeeper and was rewarded with a long-term contract running until 2028.

An academy graduate at Sunderland, Patterson has made over 150 senior appearances for the Black Cats and has represented England at the Under-21 level. Should Wolves pursue a move, they are unlikely to have a clear path to securing the goalkeeper. Millwall are reportedly keen to retain him after his successful loan spell, while ambitious Championship rivals Wrexham have also been linked with the shot-stopper.

Patterson’s Numbers Suggest Reliability

Patterson’s statistics highlight why he continues to attract attention from clubs across the Championship. According to Transfermarkt, the Sunderland academy graduate has made over 170 senior appearances during his career, the majority of which came for Sunderland. During his time with the Black Cats, Patterson has kept more than 50 clean sheets and has established himself as one of the division’s most dependable goalkeepers.

The 26-year-old gained valuable experience during a loan spell with Millwall in the second half of the 2025/26 season, where he featured regularly as the club pushed for a play-off place. His combination of experience, shot-stopping ability, and composure in possession has made him a highly regarded goalkeeper at Championship level.

Transfermarkt currently values Patterson at around £5.1 million, although Sunderland are reportedly seeking a fee in excess of £8 million should they decide to sell him this summer. With his best years potentially still ahead of him, any club securing his signature would be investing in a goalkeeper with both significant experience and room for further development.

Potential Move for All Parties

With Sunderland now qualified for Europe and Patterson no longer guaranteed regular first-team football, a permanent move could appeal to all parties. Wolves, meanwhile, may view the experienced Championship goalkeeper as a valuable addition as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion back to the top flight.
