Punk band exits Coachella after singer’s brain injury

British Punk Duo Lambrini Girls Withdraw from Coachella

The British punk duo Lambrini Girls have had to withdraw from their scheduled performance at the Coachella festival. This decision came after lead singer Phoebe Lunny suffered a serious injury, fracturing her neck and sustaining a brain injury. In an Instagram post, Lunny shared the news with fans, stating: “We have to pull out of Coachella and reschedule our whole American headline tour. Long story short: I fractured my neck and have an acute brain injury.”

Lunny explained that the injury occurred while she was in Australia, and she faced delays in receiving proper treatment due to her condition being misdiagnosed. She mentioned that doctors have advised her not to fly or perform for six weeks. However, she confirmed that the band’s shows in the UK and the EU in June and beyond will still take place.

In a photo accompanying the announcement, Lunny posed in a hospital gown, showing off her bare backside while looking over her shoulder. The image was accompanied by broken heart emojis, highlighting the emotional impact of the situation.

Lunny expressed her disappointment at missing the event, writing: “We have received quite a lot of messages re Coachella… We want to be there so bad.” She also referenced Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who famously performed from a chair after fracturing his fibula in 2015. “If it was a broken leg, I would do a Dave Grohl and play it,” she said, emphasizing the seriousness of her current condition.

“This isn’t something we are taking lightly and we are really sad,” she added. “Because it is my neck and brain, our hands are tied for now, but I’m lucky and expect a speedy recovery thank f***.”

Lunny also addressed the American ticket holders, acknowledging the difficult times in the United States. “Making space for subversion and resistance is at the core of what this band is about,” she said. “Seeing people of all ages, genders and backgrounds come together to mosh, lift each other up, chant, cry, scream in both parts joyful and angry, is my greatest joy.”

The punk duo was originally scheduled to perform at 3 p.m. on Saturday. However, former White Stripes frontman Jack White has stepped in to fill the slot in the Mojave tent.

Lambrini Girls, based in Brighton, UK, were formed in 2021. They released their debut album Who Let the Dogs Out in 2025, featuring tracks such as “Company Culture,” “Big D*** Energy” and “Love.” The album received widespread critical acclaim and reached 16th place on the UK Albums chart.
