Wasim Jaffer questions Arshdeep Singh’s IPL 2026 performance

Key Encounter Between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 table toppers, Punjab Kings (PBKS), are set to face a crucial challenge against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday. The match will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Shreyas Iyer, who had maintained an unbeaten streak in the first six games of the season, saw his run come to an end after a loss to the Rajasthan Royals.

Concerns Over Arshdeep Singh’s Form

Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has expressed concerns about Arshdeep Singh’s current bowling form. The left-arm seamer has taken only eight wickets this season, with an economy rate of 10.96, which is his worst performance since making his debut in 2019.

Jaffer, previewing the upcoming GT vs PBKS game, stated:

“Punjab start as the favourites. They lost their previous game. Gujarat Titans are also coming into the match on the back of a win. There are issues with the bowling as Arshdeep has gone for runs and Bartlett didn’t play the last game.”

Bowling Woes for Punjab Kings

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the 48-year-old further highlighted the concerns over the Indian bowler’s poor form. Jaffer said:

“They will have to rework the combination. He (Arshdeep) is a strike bowler and needs to return to his best form. He hasn’t been bowling like a strike bowler so far this season.”

Even the bowling coach James Hopes had voiced his concerns after the previous game’s loss. Lockie Ferguson, playing his first game of the season, looked rusty and was repeatedly hit by Donovan Ferreira and Shubman Dubey. The home side failed to defend a massive 200-plus target, with the Royals reaching it in style.

Kings’ Batting Unit Faces a Major Test

On the other hand, Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada have been performing exceptionally well with the ball. Gujarat’s bowling duo has been picking wickets easily in the powerplay overs, with Rabada particularly bowling at high speeds, clocking over 150 KPH in recent games.

Addressing the Shubman Gill-led side’s bowling, India’s 31-test veteran batter said:

“Titans are bowling well. Siraj and Rabada have done well, and even Rashid Khan seems to be back to his best. They could test Punjab’s batting unit.”

Goals for the Home Team

The home team will be aiming to win this game, climb up the points table, and secure a spot in the playoffs. With both teams having strong performances in different areas, the match promises to be a thrilling encounter for fans.
