A Beloved Terrier’s Final Appearance on BBC Show
The beloved terrier Ted, known for his appearances on the BBC show Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, has left a lasting legacy in the world of television. Despite passing away at the age of 13, Ted is set to make a posthumous appearance in the next series of the program. Fans were heartbroken when the news of his death was announced, but there is still hope to see the lovable canine on screen.
Ted, a Patterdale Terrier mix, had become an integral part of the show since joining Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse in 2020. His presence on the show was so significant that he even appeared in the Christmas Special in 2025, where he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Ted’s journey with the show began after being rescued from a Surrey dogs’ home in 2013 at just six months old. He later moved in with Lisa Clark, the show’s executive producer, who became his owner.
Despite his passing, Ted will be included in an upcoming episode of season nine of Gone Fishing. The exact transmission date for the series has not been confirmed yet, but fans are eager to see the final appearance of their favorite dog. In addition, many have called for Ted to be honored during the In Memoriam segment at the TV BAFTAs, which will air on May 10.
Bob and Paul, who have been close friends with Ted for years, expressed their deep sorrow over his passing. Bob said, “So very, very sad. Lovely Ted, the best companion and the greatest little chum. Going to miss him so much… and away boss.” Paul added, “Bye bye Ted old friend. He wasn’t a dog, he was a species all of his own. He’s gone to the great briefcase emporium in the sky. We will really miss you mate.”
Lisa Clark, Ted’s owner, shared her memories of the dog, saying, “Ted was a much-loved family pet as well as a treasured companion to Paul and Bob on Gone Fishing. He took fame in his little stride and loved nothing better than messing around on the riverbanks, nicking Jammie Dodgers from Bob and bait from Paul. He will be sorely missed both at home and on screen. We’ll never forget him. He is survived at home by Bo the Briard.”
Ted’s Legacy Beyond the Screen
Ted’s influence extended beyond the television screen. He was behind two best-selling books – A Pawtobiography and Pup Fiction – and had a massive social media following of over 200,000 people. A third book, written by Ted, is expected to be released in 2026. This shows how much of an impact the dog had on his fans and the wider public.
The show Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing first aired in 2018 and follows the comedic duo as they travel across the UK on fishing trips. The show was born out of a personal moment when Paul lured Bob to the riverbank for a bonding activity after Bob underwent a triple heart bypass surgery in 2015. During the operation, his heart was stopped for 32 minutes after discovering that 95% of his arteries were blocked.
Throughout the series, the show combines conversations about life, health, family, and friendships with the inclusion of celebrity guests such as comedian Lee Mack and TV presenter Ben Fogle. The show has gained a loyal following and continues to entertain viewers with its unique blend of humor and heartfelt moments.
