Australia’s Dominance in ICC Rankings
Australia has continued to showcase its dominance in the world of cricket, maintaining a strong lead in both the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings and the ICC Women’s ODI Team Rankings following the latest updates on Friday. These rankings reflect the performance of teams across all matches played since May 2025, with matches from the previous two years counted at 50 per cent.
In the Men’s Test Rankings, Australia retains a 12-point advantage over South Africa, while in the Women’s ODIs, they are 35 points ahead of England. This highlights the consistent performance of the Australian teams in their respective formats.
Men’s Test Rankings: A Shift in Positions
The latest Men’s Test Rankings have seen Australia and South Africa remain at the top, each gaining three rating points. Australia is now at 131 points, while South Africa sits at 119 points. England has slipped to fourth position after losing seven rating points, dropping behind India, which now holds the third spot with 104 points. New Zealand follows closely behind England in fifth place.
England’s decline can be attributed to the exclusion of certain home series wins against New Zealand and South Africa, as well as a 3-0 series win in Pakistan. These results were part of the period ending 30 April 2023 and are no longer included in the calculations.
Pakistan has made significant progress, overtaking Sri Lanka to take sixth position. Their rise is largely due to the dropping of a 3-0 home series defeat to England and the halving of the weight assigned to their 2-0 defeat to Bangladesh in 2024.
Ireland has dropped out of the rankings as they have not played the required eight matches in the rating period. Both Ireland and Afghanistan need to play two more Tests in the next year to be included in the rankings.
Women’s ODI Rankings: Stability at the Top
In the Women’s ODI Rankings, the top six positions remain unchanged. Australia’s lead has slightly decreased by four rating points, but they still hold an impressive rating of 163. England has increased their lead over India from one to four points, sitting at 128. India (124), South Africa (100), New Zealand (93), and Sri Lanka (89) maintain their positions.
Sri Lanka has gained six points after the update, reducing the gap with New Zealand from 13 to four points. Bangladesh has overtaken Pakistan to reach seventh position.
Thailand and the Netherlands have dropped out of the table for now as they haven’t played the required eight ODIs in the past three years. Thailand needs to play one more ODI, while the Netherlands requires two more to regain their rankings.
Upcoming Updates
The ICC Men’s and Women’s T20I Team Rankings update will be announced on 5 May, and the Men’s ODI Team Rankings update on 7 May.
