A Night of Glamour and Fashion at the Met Gala
The most dazzling stars from Hollywood, music, sports, and style graced the red carpet on Monday for the Met Gala, a prestigious charity event in Manhattan that has become the pinnacle of fashion’s annual calendar. Among the attendees were icons like Beyoncé, Madonna, and Nicole Kidman, who made a striking entrance for the evening.
The theme of this year’s gala was “Fashion is Art,” aligning with the “Costume Art” exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. While not every guest adhered strictly to the theme, the event still delivered an unforgettable display of star power and high fashion.

Beyoncé, one of the co-chairs of the event, made her first appearance in a decade and did not disappoint. She arrived late but made a dramatic impact in a bejeweled skeleton gown paired with a striking feather coat and an elaborate headpiece. Her husband, Jay-Z, joined her in a tuxedo with tails, while their daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, dazzled in a white strapless gown and sparkling heels.
Earlier in the evening, fellow co-chairs Venus Williams and Nicole Kidman set the tone. Kidman turned heads in a shimmering red long-sleeved Chanel column dress with wide feather cuffs, while Williams glimmered in a black crystal Swarovski gown featuring an intricate neck plate.

The night continued with appearances by rock legends like Madonna, Cher, and Stevie Nicks, as well as emerging stars such as Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, and Tyla. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky made a late entrance, as they often do, adding to the excitement. Bad Bunny, who has been making waves in 2026 with Grammy wins and a Super Bowl performance, appeared in prosthetics and a white wig, reimagining himself as an older man.

Doja Cat, part of the gala’s host committee, stood out in a draped latex Saint Laurent gown with a modest neckline but a daring slit up to her waist. Meanwhile, fashion designers like Donatella Versace, Tom Ford, Stella McCartney, Anthony Vaccarello, and Haider Ackermann were also in attendance, showcasing their influence in the industry.
Olympic champions Alysa Liu and Eileen Gu, known for their stylish outfits, were among the athletes present, along with NFL star Russell Wilson and basketball stars from both men’s and women’s teams.

Actress Blake Lively made a surprise appearance at the event, just hours after resolving a major legal case related to her film It Ends with Us with co-star and director Justin Baldoni.
Anna Wintour, Vogue’s global editorial director and the mastermind behind the event for the past 30 years, oversaw the entire evening. The Met Gala serves as a key fundraiser for the Costume Institute, and this year raised a record $42 million, surpassing last year’s $31 million.

This year’s exhibit, “Costume Art,” explores the intersection of fashion and fine art by placing elegant fashion pieces alongside paintings and sculptures. For example, a Saint Laurent design might be displayed next to Van Gogh’s Irises, or a John Galliano gown could be paired with an antique statue.
Andrew Bolton, the curator of the Costume Institute, described the exhibit as emphasizing “equitability or equivalency between artworks.” He highlighted that there is no hierarchy between different forms of art or bodies, whether classical or disabled.

The event has sparked some controversy due to the involvement of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sanchez Bezos, as lead sponsors and honorary co-chairs. However, Wintour defended their participation, stating that they “genuinely care about giving back.”
The Met Gala, first held in 1948, was originally reserved for New York’s elite. It was transformed into a global fashion spectacle in the 1990s under Wintour’s leadership.
The “Costume Art” exhibit will open on May 10 at the museum in Manhattan, offering a unique exploration of the “dressed body” in artworks throughout history.
