Adam Driver Speaks Out on Lena Dunham’s Shocking Memoir Claims at Cannes

Adam Driver Responds to Lena Dunham’s Claims in New Memoir

Adam Driver has finally spoken out about the allegations made by his former co-star, Lena Dunham, in her latest memoir. The claims, which include accusations of verbal abuse and even throwing a chair on set, have sparked significant attention in the entertainment industry.

During a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, Driver was asked about Dunham’s revelations. The 42-year-old actor responded with a sarcastic remark, stating, “I have no comment on that. I’m saving it all for my book.” His response drew laughter from the audience, highlighting the tension surrounding the situation.

Dunham and Driver played love interests across all six seasons of the HBO drama Girls, which ran from 2012 to 2017. At the time, Dunham was 25, and Driver was 28. In her second memoir, Famesick, released last month, Dunham detailed several incidents involving Driver during the production of the show.

According to Dunham, Driver screamed at her inside her trailer while on set of Girls. She also claimed he “hurled a chair” at a wall next to her and punched a hole in his own trailer wall. These allegations paint a picture of a tense working environment, which Dunham felt impacted her ability to maintain directorial authority on the set.

In an interview with The Guardian last month, Dunham reflected on her experience, stating, “At the time, I didn’t have the skill to… it never entered my mind to say, ‘I am your boss, you can’t speak to me this way.’” She added, “And, at that point in my 20s, I still thought that’s what great male geniuses do: eviscerate you. Which is weird, because I was raised by a male genius who would never do that.”

Dunham rose to fame as both the creator and star of Girls. Meanwhile, Driver portrayed her character’s on-and-off boyfriend, Adam Sackler. Her memoir, Famesick, covers her life from 2010–2020, describing it as “a decade in which my life changed profoundly and permanently, in which nearly every strand of my DNA reconstituted itself.”

The deeply personal reflection delves into Dunham’s rise to fame and the challenges she faced in fulfilling her dreams, including “illness, sex and everything in between.”

Driver is currently in Cannes promoting his new film Paper Tiger, a 2026 crime drama starring Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller. The film has generated considerable buzz, with fans eager to see Driver in a new role.

As the conversation around Dunham’s memoir continues, it raises important questions about power dynamics in the entertainment industry and the experiences of women in positions of influence. While Driver has not provided a detailed response to the specific allegations, his comments suggest he may be planning to address them more thoroughly in the future.

The situation highlights the complexities of workplace relationships in the spotlight and the ongoing discussions about accountability and respect in creative environments. Whether or not Driver will elaborate further remains to be seen, but the current exchange has certainly kept the public engaged and interested in the story.
