Ben Stiller Returns to Television with New Apple TV+ Series
Ben Stiller is making a return to television with his latest project, Protective Custody, set to debut on Apple TV+. Known for his work in comedy and satire, Stiller has been a prominent figure in Hollywood, starring in blockbusters like Night at the Museum and voicing characters such as Alex the Lion in Madagascar. With this new series, fans are eager to see what kind of chaos and humor Stiller will bring to the screen.
A New Comedy Chaos Project
Protective Custody is a satirical series that follows a disgraced financier who finds himself in protective custody after being accused of fraud. The show explores the challenges he faces in prison, including political maneuvering, damaged reputation, and survival games, all while awaiting trial. Stiller will not only star in the series but also serve as an executive producer, marking his first major leading role in a comedy TV series. However, the exact release date remains unknown, as the project is still in its early development phase.
The series is supported by a team of talented writers and producers, including Mike Judge from Silicon Valley and King of the Hill, Steve Hely from Veep, and Dave King from Parks and Recreation. These individuals will co-write, co-showrun, and executive produce the series, with Judge also set to direct. This collaboration highlights Stiller’s growing influence on Apple TV+, following previous projects such as Severance, The Off Weeks, and The Dink.
Ben Stiller’s 2026 Comeback Slates
Beyond Protective Custody, Stiller’s 2026 schedule is already packed with a variety of film and streaming projects. He is set to appear in Netflix’s fantasy-comedy A Matter of Time, alongside Nicholas Galitzine and Bella Maclean. Additionally, he will make a nostalgic return as Hal L. in Happy Gilmore 2, opposite Adam Sandler. Another project, Focker-in-Law, will reunite Stiller with Robert De Niro nearly 16 years after their last collaboration.
Stiller is also stepping into a leading role in Nutcracker, his first major indie lead in six years. Directed by David Gordon Green, the film follows a workaholic forced to care for his orphaned nephews in rural Ohio. Stiller will also produce the film through Red Hour Films. On top of that, The Dink, an Apple Original Film, will feature Stiller in a sports satire alongside Jake Johnson, Mary Steenburgen, and Ed Harris.
Continuing the Legacy
Stiller is also expected to continue his role as an executive producer on Severance Season 3, which is rumored to arrive much sooner than the previous three-year gap between seasons. With Protective Custody possibly joining the Apple TV+ lineup, Stiller is set to deliver a year full of entertainment and excitement.
