‘Ridiculously entertaining’ thriller Nemesis with near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score soars up Netflix charts

An ‘explosively tense’ crime thriller has stormed to second place on Netflix most-watched TV show charts.

Nemesis sees criminal mastermind Coltrane Wilder (Y’lan Noel) clash against detective Isaiah Stiles (Matthew Law, Abbot Elementary).

Set in Los Angeles, the game of cat-and-mouse that is played between the pair has so far earned rave reviews from critics and audiences.

After first premiering on May 14, the show has shot up the streamer’s top 10 rankings and currently boasts an impressive 92% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Sharing their thoughts on the series, one viewer described the show as ‘ridiculously entertaining’, as several others heaped praise.

Writing a review, Archie said on the website: ‘Nemesis thrives on stylish chaos, explosive tension, and strong lead performances from Matthew Law and Y’lan Noel.’

Thao also wrote: ‘This show is a thrilling blend of crime, action, and intense scenes. It features cartels, gangs, love, family, and the law all intertwined.

‘The limited series keeps you on the edge of your seat, with unexpected twists and turns that make you second-guess everything. I’m eagerly waiting for season 2, as it’s been a long time since a TV show has kept me and my boyfriend glued to the screen, afraid to miss a single moment. Well done!’

Meanwhile, Mack claimed that he ‘binge watched’ the season twice and is in desperate need of a second series.

Guardian critic Jack Seale then wrote: ‘The occasional moments of comedy show that Nemesis knows how absurd it needs to be. And because it judges its own chaos levels perfectly, it’s ridiculously entertaining.’

However, while the show boasts high viewing figures and positive reviews, not all fans seem to be as equally pleased.

Also taking to Rotten Tomatoes, another user called Daniel questioned why there were so many ‘good reviews’.

‘This is terrible. I didn’t even finish half of it. It’s sad to say, because I always complain that there’s nothing to watch new,’ he said.

‘I looked at reddit reviews 90% for this show. And downloaded instantly to watch later. Regretting that decision and space on my hard drive.’

Jim similarly echoed this sentiment by writing: ‘Its characters are interesting but not enough to care. It never reaches its potential and is hardly binge worthy.’

Cody also added that it was a ‘slog to watch’ while Courtney even claimed that it was ‘the most unoriginal television drama I’ve seen in a long time’.

Co-created by Courtney A. Kemp and Tani Marole, the series has not yet been renewed by Netflix, but there is high optimism given its place on the top 10 charts.

This comes after an ‘exceptional’ eight-part thriller called Slovak was added to to Channel 4, providing eight episodes of drama.

Launched in 2016, the series has been described as viewers as being seriously binge-worthy TV.

Nemesis is available to stream on Netflix.
