TCL’s FFALCON Unveils 300Hz 1080p Gaming Monitor Under $90

TCL’s FFALCON brand has introduced a new gaming monitor in China, the Thunderobot Q5AD YYDS Edition. This 24.5-inch display offers a 1080p resolution and a high 300Hz refresh rate, all at an affordable price of 599 yuan (approximately $88). It is specifically designed for gamers who prioritize performance over visual fidelity, particularly those who play competitive PC shooters.

Thunderobot Q5AD Monitor Specifications

Although 1080p is not considered a premium resolution these days, it remains the standard for esports setups. Gamers playing titles such as Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, or Overwatch typically focus on achieving high frame rates and minimal input lag rather than ultra-high resolutions. The Thunderobot Q5AD uses a Fast IPS panel manufactured by CSOT. It natively supports 280Hz, but with a DisplayPort connection, users can overclock it to 300Hz. The monitor boasts a 1ms gray-to-gray response time and includes features like overdrive and motion blur reduction (MPRT-Plus) to enhance clarity during fast-paced action.

In terms of color accuracy, the monitor delivers solid performance for its price point. It supports 10-bit color through 8-bit + FRC technology and covers 99% of the sRGB color space, along with 93% of DCI-P3. Factory calibration ensures a Delta E value of less than 2, making the colors accurate right out of the box. The display also has a peak brightness of 400 nits and supports basic HDR400, which enhances contrast and detail in darker scenes.

The physical design of the monitor is straightforward but includes some thoughtful touches for gamers. The stand features a small, hexagonal base that helps free up desk space for larger mouse pads and improved mouse movement. However, it only allows for basic tilt adjustments (from -5° to 15°), meaning users cannot adjust the height or rotate the screen. To reduce eye strain during long gaming sessions, the monitor uses hardware-level low blue light filtering and DC dimming to minimize screen flicker.

On the software side, the Thunderobot Q5AD supports AMD FreeSync Premium and is compatible with Nvidia G-Sync to prevent screen tearing. It also comes with several built-in gaming features, such as a dark scene booster that helps players spot enemies in shadowy areas and a dynamic crosshair for improved targeting.

The port selection is limited but functional. It includes one DisplayPort 1.4 port (required for the 300Hz refresh rate), one HDMI 2.0 port (capped at 240Hz), and a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Users can navigate the monitor’s settings using a five-way joystick located on the back.

In addition to the Q5AD, Thunderobot has also released the 25Q5A gaming monitor, which features a 1080p 300Hz Mini LED display. This model offers enhanced brightness and contrast compared to traditional LCD panels.
