Shakira Reveals Painful Split with Gerard Piqué

Shakira Reflects on the Darkest Moment of Her Life

Shakira, the global music icon, has shared rare insights into her high-profile split from former partner Gerard Piqué, describing the experience as the “darkest moment” of her life. The 49-year-old singer has kept most details of their separation private since she and the former Barcelona footballer ended their relationship in 2022. However, she has now opened up about the emotional turmoil that accompanied the dissolution of the family she had long dreamed of.

Speaking to The Times, Shakira reflected on the painful moment when her family fell apart, a period made even more difficult by her father’s serious health issues. At the time, her father, William Mebarak, was hospitalized after a severe fall, adding to the emotional weight of the situation. She described the experience as “[living through] the darkest moment – when I saw the dissolution of my family. The family that I had dreamt to keep forever.”

Despite the heartache, Shakira emphasized that she emerged from this challenging chapter “stronger.” She acknowledged the deep pain she endured but also recognized the growth it brought. “I’ve been through so much pain, but it has made me perhaps in an unforeseen way a wiser person – or stronger, at least…” she said.

She also highlighted the resilience of the human spirit, noting, “It’s amazing to learn that humans have a resilience that we can resort to at any moment in our lives.”

A Relationship Built on Love and Legacy

Shakira and Piqué were together for 11 years before their split, with their relationship beginning on the set of her 2010 Football World Cup anthem Waka Waka (This Time for Africa). Their union became one of the most high-profile relationships in the entertainment and sports worlds, and they eventually welcomed two sons, Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11.

Although the couple officially ended their relationship in June 2022, there were persistent rumors about infidelity. In a past interview with The Times, Shakira had referred to Piqué as “Voldemort,” indicating the tension that had built up over the years. However, her tone has softened in recent years, and she expressed gratitude for the role he played in her life.

“I will always have that gratitude in my heart for the father of my kids and [for] turning me into the mother that I am today,” she said.

Focused on Family and Career

When asked about whether she is ready to return to the dating scene, Shakira was clear in her response. “Oh no, no romance for me for now,” she insisted. “There’s no space or time in my life for that. My plate is quite full. My kids are my priority. And my career.”

She added, “Strangely enough, I’m in love with my career like I’ve never been in my life. I’m enjoying my time alone as well.”

A New Chapter

Shakira’s journey through heartbreak and personal growth has been a testament to her strength and determination. While the past few years have been filled with challenges, she has found clarity and purpose in focusing on her children and her work. As she continues to navigate this new phase of her life, her resilience and commitment to her family remain evident.
