The Rise of Blepharoplasty Among Male Celebrities
Plastic surgeons have uncovered the surprising reason behind why so many male celebrities are appearing unrecognizable on the red carpet. A number of A-list men, including Jim Carrey and Matthew McConaughey, have drawn concern from fans after showcasing drastic changes in their appearance. Some have speculated that medications like Ozempic or rapid weight loss could be responsible for these transformations. Others have questioned whether these stars have undergone plastic surgery.
According to Dr Terry Dubrow, a renowned plastic surgeon who works with celebrities, there is a simple explanation for these changes. He revealed that many male stars are opting for the same cosmetic procedures as their female counterparts. However, he cautioned that what works for women may not always work for men.

Understanding Blepharoplasty
Dr Dubrow explained that many male celebrities are undergoing blepharoplasty, commonly referred to as “blephs.” This procedure is less invasive than more extensive surgeries but can significantly rejuvenate the eye area. In major cities, the cost of this procedure can exceed $15,000.
He told the Daily Mail that upper eyelid blepharoplasty is particularly impactful for men, as it can dramatically alter their appearance. “It’s not only the most potentially feminizing, but also the most polarizing in its ability to change a man’s fundamental appearance,” he said.
The facial rejuvenation process involves removing excess skin, which reduces the appearance of hollowing around the eyes and gives a fresher look. Doctors can also add fat to create a more youthful and rested appearance. Many people, including celebrities, find this procedure appealing, comparing it to a “mini facelift.”

Celebrity Controversies
Jim Carrey recently sparked rumors about his new look when he appeared noticeably different at an event. He is not the only male Hollywood star facing scrutiny over his changing appearance. In December, social media was flooded with posts about Matthew McConaughey’s altered features after he attended the Caring for Women Gala dinner.
Other celebrities, such as Simon Cowell, Zac Efron, Scott Disick, and Adam Levine, have also faced speculation about undergoing plastic surgery.
Dr Dubrow emphasized that blepharoplasty is considered a “feminizing” procedure and can have significant effects on men. He warned that the procedure can be especially jarring for masculine individuals because it is easy to remove too much skin, leading to an unnatural appearance.

The Debate Over Feminizing Surgeries
Dr Dubrow believes that the best results from feminizing surgeries are often seen in men who already have softer or more feminine features. “Certain guys who are feminine looking, who are pretty… you’re OK to do feminizing plastic surgery on them,” he said.
He noted that many people choose blepharoplasty over facelifts due to its quicker recovery time. This is especially important for celebrities who need to return to their work quickly.
However, he warned against rushing into the procedure. If someone is unhappy with the results, it can take a long time to reverse the changes. “An overly aggressive facelift may take a decade to look normal again, and an overly aggressive upper blepharoplasty can take even longer,” Dr Dubrow warned.
He concluded that the same surgeons who excel at working with A-list female celebrities may not be the best fit for highly masculine male celebrities. For men, a more conservative and restrained approach is essential.
