The Evolution of Gaming Accessories
Gaming accessories have come a long way from simple controllers and joysticks. Today, they encompass a wide range of products designed to enhance the gaming experience, from high-tech headsets to stylish wearable tech. One of the most intriguing developments in this space is the emergence of gaming-themed fashion items that blend functionality with nostalgia.
A Nostalgic Revival
As whispers circulate about a potential new PlayStation handheld, one retailer has taken a unique approach by reviving the legacy of Sony’s first portable console, the PSP. This revival comes in the form of a sleek crossbody bag that pays homage to the iconic device. While Sony’s ambitions for a dedicated gaming handheld may have seemed to wane after the PS Vita’s struggles, the company might be gearing up for a significant return to the market.
Rumours and Speculation
There have been ongoing rumors for months regarding a new PlayStation handheld, which appears to be a key component of Sony’s next-gen plans. However, the exact nature of this device remains unclear. It could either be a standalone handheld, a streaming device similar to the PlayStation Portal, or a hybrid model akin to the Nintendo Switch. Regardless of its final form, the spirit of the original PSP lives on through Zara’s latest offering.
Zara’s PlayStation-Themed Bags
Zara has introduced a series of PlayStation-themed crossbody bags that celebrate the console’s rich history. The latest addition to this collection is a silicone recreation of the PSP, complete with a PlayStation-themed shoulder strap. Priced at only £19.99, this bag is an affordable way to carry a piece of gaming history.
This isn’t the first time Zara has released PlayStation-themed bags. Last year, the retailer celebrated the console’s 30th anniversary with two other crossbody bags modeled after the PlayStation 5 DualSense and the PlayStation 2 DualShock controller, each priced at £17.99.

The Appeal of Nostalgia
It’s unclear why Zara chose to release a PSP edition at this time, but it’s arguably the most aesthetically pleasing of the bunch. The design aligns well with the shape of the bag, and the inclusion of the PSP logo on the back is sure to evoke a sense of early 2000s nostalgia for many.
The PSP was a massive hit in Japan, selling over 80 million units worldwide. Although it didn’t achieve the same level of success in the West, it remains the 11th best-selling console of all time, surpassing the NES, SNES, Game Boy Advance, and every Xbox console except the Xbox 360.
Celebrating PlayStation’s Legacy
For PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, Sony marked the occasion with a special line of PlayStation 5 consoles and a limited-time grey DualSense controller. Earlier this year, Sony increased the price of the PlayStation 5 by £90 in the UK due to ‘continued pressures in the global economic landscape.’
