Giada De Laurentiis, the renowned chef and television personality, recently made headlines as she was seen posing with both her ex-husband and new partner for the first time. The 55-year-old was at her 18-year-old daughter Jade Marie De Laurentiis-Thompson’s high school graduation on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in her family’s life.
In one of the images shared, Giada smiled next to her teenager and her ex-husband, Todd Thompson. The couple was together for 25 years and married from 2003 until 2015. Alongside them was Giada’s current partner, Shane Farley, who works as a television producer. The pair have been together since 2015 but have not yet tied the knot.
Giada expressed her pride and joy on social media, writing, “She did it! What an unbelievable milestone for our girl, our world changer, our graduate. Keep shining Jadey, we love you more than you will ever know✨.”

Thompson also shared his excitement, saying, “Wow! Can’t believe we have a graduate! I am so proud of our Jade!” Jade, who is part of a band called The Hours, performed at the ceremony, adding a musical touch to the celebration.
Giada frequently shares moments with her only child on her social media platforms. Her connection with Jade is evident through the posts she regularly shares.
A Career That Spanned Two Decades
Giada’s career on The Food Network was nothing short of remarkable. She retired from the network in 2024 after 21 years as one of its most beloved stars. Her decision to step away came after years of hard work and dedication, which eventually led to burnout.
Two years ago, she spoke about her exhaustion during an episode of Rebecca Minkoff’s Superwoman podcast. “I would switch gears without knowing it every seven years,” she explained. “So I did Everyday Italian for seven years, then I got pregnant, and I was like, ‘OK, I can’t do that show anymore. I’ve got to do a reincarnation of the show because I’m now pregnant. I’m a different person,’” she said of having Jade in 2008.
Giada joined The Food Network in 2002 and starred in several shows, including the Emmy-winning Everyday Italian, Giada’s Weekend Getaways, Giada at Home, Giada Entertains, and Giada in Italy. These programs helped establish her as a household name in the culinary world.
Moving On and Embracing New Opportunities
Despite her success, Giada admitted that walking away from her TV career was terrifying. “It took awhile for me to make this decision because I was very fearful of leaving Food Network,” she said. “Because when you’re a big fish in that pond and then you get out, who knows what’s gonna happen next? But I really started to become interested in the entrepreneurial sort of journey. And I realized I couldn’t do both.”
She cited her 2015 divorce, her busy work schedule, and being a single mom as reasons she felt burnt out and “felt like the world was crumbling around me.” “So about two and a half years ago, I finally was like, ‘okay, I’m gonna make the jump, and I’m gonna put my energy in Giadzy.’”

To her surprise, Giada doesn’t miss her previous career. “I know, I should say yes. I think it’s because I got burnt out. I really worked so hard for so long. I got burnt out and I couldn’t see a path that was exciting anymore. I need excitement. And if I’m getting bored, my viewers are getting bored,” she explained.
Her journey from a celebrated chef to an entrepreneur highlights her adaptability and resilience. As she continues to build her brand and explore new ventures, Giada remains a source of inspiration for many.
