Meghan Markle has once again found herself at the center of online criticism, this time due to a viral video from the 2022 Netflix series Harry & Meghan resurfacing. The clip shows the Duchess of Sussex reacting to a text message from Beyoncé, which some social media users have deemed “cringe.”
Meghan’s Reaction to Beyoncé’s Text
In the clip, Meghan is seen giggling as she reads a message from the pop star. “Beyonce just texted,” she says, prompting Harry to respond with a gasp, “Shut up.” She then begins reading the text while collapsing into laughter. “Just checking in,” she says, before Harry interjects with, “Just casual.”
The moment highlights Meghan’s obvious excitement and admiration for Beyoncé.
A Giddy Moment
Meghan’s reaction was clearly one of delight. She said, “I still can’t believe she knows who I am.” Harry encouraged her to call Beyoncé, but she declined, explaining that the singer had sent a message about feeling safe and protected. She also mentioned that Beyoncé admired her bravery and vulnerability, believing she was chosen to break generational curses.
Harry responded with, “That’s well said.”
Online Backlash
However, the scene quickly became a target for harsh online comments. One user wrote, “They aired ‘conversations’ with the royal family, Courteney Cox, Beyoncé, etc. No wonder Hollywood has closed (almost) all doors by now.” Another noted how Beyoncé seemed to disappear from the Harry & Meghan narrative after the scene.
The user continued, “Meghan reading out that Beyoncé text like a teenager announcing prom news will never not be embarrassing, especially with the way she started interpreting it like she’d rehearsed the speech beforehand while Harry reacting like he’s witnessing a historic world event.”
They added, “And ever since then? Silence. No friendship moments. No public support. No Beyoncé appearances. Nothing. Honestly feels like Beyoncé wanted no part in becoming another Meghan curated moment after that.”
Brutal Reactions
Another comment called the scene “painfully cringey” and suggested that Beyoncé had cut ties with the couple. “Good on Beyoncé for getting rid of them. Meghan should write a book titled, ‘How to Lose Friends and Influence Enemies.’”
A third user criticized Meghan for sharing a personal message with millions of people, calling it “incredibly rude and embarrassing.”
Did Beyoncé and Meghan Have a Real Relationship?
Despite the negative reactions, Meghan and Beyoncé have a history. The couple first met Beyoncé and Jay-Z at the London premiere of The Lion King in 2019. Since then, they have been seen together at several events, including Beyoncé’s “Renaissance World Tour” in Los Angeles in 2023 and her “Cowboy Carter Tour” in May 2025. Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, also joined them at the latter event.
While the recent backlash has been intense, it appears that the relationship between Meghan and Beyoncé remains intact.
