Suki Waterhouse Shares Insights on Friendship with Taylor Swift
Suki Waterhouse, the British singer and actress, has opened up about her close friendship with Taylor Swift in a recent interview. The 34-year-old, who has been friends with the pop megastar since 2016, described Taylor as an ‘inspiration’ and praised her for overcoming various challenges throughout her career.
In an interview with Variety, Suki highlighted how Taylor’s resilience has impacted those around her. She said: ‘The coolest thing about her is she gives other artists these insane opportunities that really change people’s lives. Knowing her as a friend, she’s actually been through so much. And I think the thing I always see in her is how she pulls herself through every time, and how everything that’s ever happened to her becomes another piece of art that becomes part of the legacy. That’s so inspiring — that’s the artist that you want to be.’
A Memorable Performance at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour
Suki recently opened for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour London concert in August 2024, just five months after welcoming her first child with partner Robert Pattinson. Despite being a new mother, Suki delivered a performance for a crowd of 90,000 people at Wembley Stadium. However, the event was not without its challenges.
Suki revealed that she had planned to wear a dress with ‘massive sleeves’ designed by French fashion house Chloé. Unfortunately, the dress wasn’t collected ahead of the show, and on the day of the performance, the store was closed. To resolve the issue, one of Suki’s managers paid £500 to a porter to break into the store and retrieve the dress. Suki recalled: ‘I think there were literally 140 [phone] calls.’ Fortunately, the dress arrived just under two hours before her performance, and Suki was kept in the dark until then because ‘I was already stressing.’
A Special Opportunity
Suki also shared that she had been asked to open for Taylor the year before, revealing that Taylor mentioned it during a dinner a year ago. ‘I didn’t know if it was real,’ Suki said. ‘But that’s the thing about her: I should have known, she always plans. When she says something, she’s gonna do it.’
The look-alike stars have been close friends since 2016 when they were spotted in matching outfits. They have even double dated with Suki’s fiancé Robert Pattinson and Taylor’s then-boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
After the show, Suki took to Instagram to share her excitement, writing: ‘The last time I was at Wembley I was dancing my a*s off at the Reputation tour! Never did I think the next time I’d be here would be opening for my favourite artist with my friends and family in the crowd. Thank you @taylorswift for this once in a lifetime opportunity to perform in my beloved London and for the unwavering support in my own journey as an artist. You are the world’s biggest and brightest star, I love you so much. My nervous system will never be the same after last night. Someone go tell this girl on the last slide she just opened for ERAS BABY!!!’
Balancing Motherhood and Music
Opening for Taylor has helped Suki prepare for her own shows, and she has since released her second album, embarked on a North American tour, and announced her third studio album. The tour was unique as she went on the road with her five-month-old daughter, whom she shares with Robert Pattinson.
Suki expressed her excitement about taking her daughter on the tour, saying: ‘I’m actually really excited about [taking her on the tour bus]. I know that sounds crazy. But I really am. I didn’t have a baby to be like: “Oh, I’ll just leave her at home for five weeks.” That’s not even an option. I’m absolutely obsessed with being with my baby, so I would never [leave her].’
She also acknowledged that balancing motherhood and her career could be challenging, adding: ‘If it gets crazy and I feel like the baby needs a break, then her dad will come and get her and she’ll go and hang out with him on set. You just make it work.’
