Tina Fey has dismissed claims that Timothée Chalamet was manspreading during a recent NBA playoff game. The actress, known for her role in The Four Seasons, was seated next to the actor and his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, at the New York Knicks’ first-round playoff match against the Atlanta Hawks on April 28. In a photo from the event, Fey appears to be sitting closely, while Chalamet is seen with his legs spread out. Next to him is Jenner, who is squeezed in beside Ben Stiller, who also had his legs apart, and his wife, Christine Taylor.

Fey later addressed the situation in an interview, stating that she found Chalamet and Jenner to be very friendly. She shared this sentiment during a conversation with the Kelce brothers on their podcast, New Heights.

“I should start by saying that Timothée Chalamet was nothing but lovely,” she said. “He was super friendly, Kylie was friendly and delightful. We had a great time.”
She added, “It wasn’t until the next day that I saw all these manspreading things, but I will say you’ve got to remember for every amount that he’s sitting like this [hands out] and manspreading, I’m doing the opposite [hands in]. I’ve got a big old can in the back. As Amy Poehler would say, ‘God is fair.’”

Fey continued, “Timothée was like this [spreads hands] in the front, and my big old can was taking the back [hands in].” She emphasized that there was no tension between her and Chalamet.
“We had no beef,” she told the podcast. “It was all good, and the Knicks won, so everyone was happy.”

Chalamet is a long-time fan of the New York Knicks. He shared a personal story about his early experiences at games, recalling how he attended a Denver Nuggets vs. New York Knicks match when he was just 10 years old. “If you look at the footage… I snuck down with my buddy. We’re on the tunnel exit and you can see the players. You can see a little kid going nuts on the players! That was me! That was a crazy game to be at,” he said during an appearance on the 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony podcast.

Jenner also made headlines for skipping the Met Gala to attend the Knicks game. According to Us Weekly, she missed the event on May 4 to be at the game against the Philadelphia 76ers. She attended the star-studded event with her sisters Kendall Jenner and Kim Kardashian, as well as her mother, Kris Jenner.
The couple, who have been dating since 2023, continues to make appearances together, often drawing attention from fans and media alike.
Fey’s comments highlight the importance of perspective and humor in navigating public moments. While some took issue with the way Chalamet sat, Fey chose to focus on the positive aspects of the evening. Her response not only defused any potential controversy but also reinforced the idea that such situations are often exaggerated in the public eye.
As the conversation around personal space and social norms continues, Fey’s approach serves as a reminder that context and intention matter more than assumptions. Whether it’s about seating arrangements or other everyday interactions, maintaining a sense of fairness and kindness can go a long way in fostering understanding.
