A Dramatic Dismissal in the IPL 2026 Qualifier 2
Sai Sudharsan’s impressive performance during Gujarat Titans’ chase against Rajasthan Royals in the Qualifier 2 of IPL 2026 was cut short in an unexpected manner. The left-hander was given out hit wicket at a crucial moment, leaving the stadium in shock.
Gujarat Titans were in a strong position to chase down the challenging target of 215 runs, thanks to the dominant opening partnership between Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. The two batsmen were in complete control of the Rajasthan Royals’ bowling attack, accumulating 167 runs for the first wicket. This is now the highest first-wicket stand in IPL playoff history.
However, just as Sudharsan was on his way to another century, a dramatic dismissal changed the atmosphere in the stadium.
Sai Sudharsan Goes Hit-Wicket Again
The dismissal occurred off the final ball of the 13th over, bowled by Brijesh Sharma. Sudharsan attempted to guide a low full toss behind square on the off-side, but the shot resulted in a boundary. As he completed the stroke, his bat slipped from his hands and struck the stumps, leading to his dismissal via hit wicket.
The on-air commentary was stunned, stating, “What would you believe it! Twice in two games Sudharsan is out hit-wicket.”
Ex-India coach Ravi Shastri expressed disbelief, saying, “Where is the fevicol? Where is the glue?”
This was the second consecutive match where Sai Sudharsan had been dismissed in the same manner. It marks the third time he has been out hit wicket in the IPL.
Record Partnership Keeps GT in Control
Before his unusual dismissal, Sudharsan played a blistering innings, scoring 58 runs off just 32 balls. His innings included 8 boundaries and a six, giving the Gujarat Titans a commanding lead in the run chase.
Shubman Gill continued to dominate at the other end, remaining unbeaten on 95 runs from 45 balls. Jos Buttler had just joined the crease, with 46 runs needed off 42 balls for Gujarat Titans.
The Gill-Sudharsan partnership broke a 15-year-old IPL playoff record, showcasing their incredible chemistry and skill.
