Terrell May’s Commitment to the Wests Tigers
The Wests Tigers have secured the services of star prop Terrell May for the foreseeable future, thanks to a long-term contract that shows his deep commitment to the club. This decision comes as a result of his strong bond with coach Benji Marshall, who has played a significant role in May’s career and personal life.
A Home Away from Home
May recently re-signed with the Tigers on a long-term deal, and he shared his thoughts on the Unscripted Podcast with Josh Mansour. He admitted that he would not be leaving the club while Marshall is in charge. “I just feel like it’s my home,” May said. “I’ve got Benji who has done so much for me, the club have done so much for my family, they brought my brother Taylan May to the club and I’ve got a lot of close boys there.”
He also emphasized his loyalty to Marshall, stating that he would never be loyal to another club. “As bad as this sounds, it will probably get clipped and that, but I will never be loyal to another club, because at the end of the day, every club is a business but I’m loyal to Benji. As long as Benji stays at the Tigers, they have my loyalty pretty much I’ll stay there forever, but I’ll never be loyal to an actual club again.”
Family and Form
Terrell May has always been open about his desire to play alongside his brothers, Taylan and Tyrone. While Taylan remains with the Wests Tigers, Tyrone is still in the English Super League. Despite this, May’s form has been exceptional since joining the Tigers, making him one of the best props in the game.
However, his performance did not earn him a spot in the State of Origin Game 1 of this year’s series, which was selected by head coach Laurie Daley. If May had become a free agent in November, he would have been a target for several clubs. However, he quickly signed with the Tigers, showing his commitment to the team.
Almost Rejoining the Panthers
On the same podcast, May revealed that he almost re-joined the Panthers shortly after his NRL debut. However, the situation took a turn when he met with the club’s head of football, Matt Cameron. “I was meant to meet with Ivan and sign a three-year deal to come back home, and then I met with Matt Cameron, and the meeting didn’t go too well,” May said.
He explained that the conversation left him feeling uncomfortable. “I don’t want to go into too much detail, but yeah, I was off him, I walked out and said ‘nah, I am re-signing with Roosters’. I will give you a little quote. The first thing Matt Cameron said to me was, ‘You are not a gangster, you are not a vlogger or YouTuber, you are a footy player.’ I was like what the hell? Then he started talking down on Tiny (Taylan May) and Tyrone (May), and I was like, nah, this ain’t it.”
May added that he apologized to the club for his U20’s incident and then left the meeting. His decision to walk away from the Panthers highlights his strong sense of loyalty and values.
