Dr. Mehmet Oz Faces Tough Questions on Trump’s Medical Exams
During a recent White House briefing, Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, found himself under intense scrutiny as he addressed questions about the frequency of President Donald Trump’s medical exams. Filling in for Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who is on maternity leave, Oz was confronted by Daily Mail reporter Elina Shirazi, who questioned the president’s unusually high number of checkups.
Shirazi pointed out that Trump has had four medical exams since returning to office in January 2025, far exceeding the standard annual checkup. She specifically mentioned the multiple CT heart scans and asked what the doctors were looking for.
Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon by training, attempted to downplay the concerns, stating that the exams were routine. “I think it’s just a routine regular exam,” he said, adding that the president’s vitals were in excellent condition. He praised Trump’s cholesterol and blood pressure levels, emphasizing that they were within normal ranges.
“His energy and mental acuity are remarkable,” Oz continued. “The president has unique abilities to keep going at all hours of the day with remarkable strength.”
The Frequency of Trump’s Medical Exams
The frequency of Trump’s medical exams has been a topic of discussion for months. The 79-year-old president has undergone four publicly disclosed medical exams since taking office in January 2025. These included an April 2025 annual exam, an October 2025 follow-up, and a May 2026 visit to Walter Reed, where presidential physician Sean Barbabella confirmed a CT scan was performed to “definitely rule out any cardiovascular issues.”
In addition, last summer, Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that affects the veins’ ability to return blood to the heart, causing visible swelling in his legs. The White House maintained that there were no serious complications from this condition.
After his May 2026 visit, Trump took to social media to declare that “Everything checked out PERFECTLY.” His doctor also recommended that he lose weight and increase his physical activity.
Public and Media Scrutiny
The increased frequency of Trump’s medical exams has led to public and media scrutiny. Critics have raised concerns about the potential health risks associated with such frequent checkups, especially given the president’s age and history of health issues.
Some experts have expressed worry about the lack of transparency surrounding Trump’s health. A former GOP analyst recently stated that the White House’s silence on the matter is disturbing, suggesting that something might be being hidden.
Additionally, a resurfaced clip of Dr. Oz, who was appointed as a Medicare pick, revealed controversial remarks about the uninsured, where he suggested they “don’t have the right to health.” This statement has sparked further debate about his views on healthcare access.
Ongoing Concerns
Despite the White House’s assurances, some continue to question the necessity and frequency of Trump’s medical exams. The president’s health remains a significant point of interest, particularly as he approaches the end of his term.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the focus on Trump’s health will likely remain a topic of discussion among the public and media alike. With each new development, the need for transparency and clarity becomes more pressing, ensuring that the American people are kept informed about the well-being of their leader.
