Chelsea have shown interest in signing Ibrahima Konate, the Liverpool defender who is set to leave the club this month. The 27-year-old centre-back confirmed his departure on Sunday, as his contract with the Reds comes to an end at the end of the season.
Konate had been in talks with Liverpool about a new deal, but a financial agreement could not be reached. Over five seasons, he made 183 appearances across all competitions and contributed to a Premier League title, an FA Cup win, and two League Cups.
The announcement came after the final game of the season, and Konate expressed his disappointment in a statement about not being able to say goodbye to Liverpool fans at Anfield during the match against Brentford on May 24.
While Real Madrid has been linked with a move for Konate, there are also reports that he could remain in the Premier League. According to The Athletic, Chelsea have made a ‘gentle enquiry’ into his situation, showing interest in the Frenchman.

Real Madrid are one of several clubs interested in Konate, and there have also been suggestions that he might move to Saudi Arabia. A report from Foot Mercato indicated that Al Ittihad is a potential destination for the 27-year-old.
Paris Saint-Germain is another club that has been linked with Konate, with ESPN suggesting he could be a successor to Marquinhos, who turned 32 last month.
Konate’s future remains uncertain, and it may take some time before his next move becomes clear. He has already joined the France squad ahead of the World Cup, where he will compete for a spot in Didier Deschamps’ starting XI.

In a heartfelt statement, Konate reflected on his time at Liverpool:
“Dear Liverpool,
Five years ago, I arrived as a young player with big dreams. Today, I leave with memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Representing this club has been an honour. We’ve shared incredible moments together… highs and lows, trophies, challenges, lifelong friendships, and heartbreaking moments that will stay with us forever, none more painful than losing our brother Diogo.
Losing my father this year was one of the hardest periods of my life, but even through hardship, my commitment to this club never changed. During the toughest moments, I gave everything I had for this badge.
To my teammates, coaches, staff and everyone behind the scenes, thank you for helping me grow every single day.
And to the supporters… Thank you for your love, your energy, your incredible support. Anfield is truly a special place, and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted.
I am deeply saddened that I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to all of you at the last game. At that moment, I didn’t know it would be my final time wearing this shirt in front of you.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything. I love you all and will carry Liverpool with me wherever I go.
This isn’t an easy goodbye, but it’s time for a new challenge and a new chapter.
See you again soon, Inshallah. YNWA.”

Konate has previously spoken about his connection to Paris, mentioning that it’s “a bit logical” for him to join PSG. He grew up in France and has six older brothers who all support the club.
His next move could depend on how he performs at the World Cup. He will be competing with players like Dayot Upamecano, William Saliba, and Maxence Lacroix for a spot in the French national team.
Doubts about Saliba’s fitness have emerged ahead of the tournament, with concerns that he may not be able to play at all. However, Deschamps has reassured fans that Saliba is “fine” and that the issue is not serious.
As the World Cup approaches, all eyes will be on Konate and his future in football. Whether he moves to Europe or beyond, his journey from Liverpool to the global stage continues.
