Emilie Bujès Steps Down as Artistic Director of Visions du Réel

Emilie Bujès has announced her decision to step down as the artistic director of the documentary film festival Visions du Réel, which is held in Nyon, Switzerland. Her tenure will come to an end at the conclusion of July, following the completion of the 57th edition of the festival, scheduled from April 17 to 26. This marks a significant transition for both Bujès and the festival, as she prepares to take on a new role.

After leaving her position at Visions du Réel, Bujès will assume the role of director at the Geneva International Film Festival, starting August 1. This new opportunity will allow her to shift her focus more towards fiction films and television series. Bujès has been deeply involved with Visions du Réel over the years, initially serving as co-director and head of programming and industry. She has contributed to nine editions of the festival, making her a key figure in its development and success.

In a statement, Bujès reflected on her time with the festival: “My years with the Visions du Réel team, first as a member of the selection committee and then as artistic director, have been filled with challenges, encounters, cinematic discoveries, and joys—artistic, professional and personal.” Her words highlight the deep connection she has formed with the festival and its community.

Philippe Bischof, chairman of the foundation board of Visions du Réel, expressed his gratitude for Bujès’ contributions. He said, “We are extremely grateful for everything Emilie has brought to the festival. We very much look forward to celebrating this upcoming edition of the festival with her, which promises to be particularly compelling, and to bringing this significant chapter in the history of Visions du Réel to a close together.”

Bischof also praised Bujès’ work, stating, “Her visionary, committed and bold work has laid a sound and solid foundation on which we can build to continue developing the festival and further enhance its reputation in the years to come. I would like to thank her for her unfailing dedication and wish her every success and happiness in her future projects.”

The position of director at Visions du Réel will soon be advertised, signaling the beginning of a new chapter for the festival. As the organization looks ahead, it will do so with the strong foundation that Bujès has helped establish.

Upcoming Projects and Industry News

While Bujès moves on to new opportunities, the film industry continues to evolve with exciting developments. One such project is the ‘Harry Potter’ HBO series, which is set to include a behind-the-scenes special titled ‘Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic.’ This special aims to provide fans with an in-depth look at the creation of the beloved franchise.

Additionally, a docuseries titled ‘The Michael Jackson Story,’ featuring appearances by La Toya Jackson and Dionne Warwick, among others, has been sold to multiple territories. This exclusive deal highlights the ongoing interest in the life and legacy of the iconic artist.

As the film and television landscape continues to expand, the contributions of individuals like Bujès remain essential in shaping the future of storytelling through visual media.
