A Celebration of Local Artistic Talent
A remarkable painting of Weymouth’s coastline has been recognized as the winner in an exhibition that highlighted the creative talents of local artists. The winning piece, titled “Weymouth’s Shores,” was created by Jaqueline Redfurn, whose work captivated the judges with its intricate details and rich textures.
The exhibition took place at Bincombe Park, a residential development in Littlemoor, hosted by Lovell Homes. During the event, the judges praised Jacqueline’s artwork for its complexity and the way it brought the landscape to life. She expressed her gratitude for being chosen as the winner, highlighting her deep connection to the local environment and the Fleet, which she believes resonated with the audience.
The Winning Work and Other Notable Entries
Jaqueline’s painting was not the only standout piece at the exhibition. Seven other artists were shortlisted, with two runners-up announced: Abigail Whelan and Pauline Metcalf. Abigail’s abstract portrayal of Weymouth’s harbour was admired for its textured approach, which added intensity to the piece. Meanwhile, Pauline’s depiction of the town’s popular carousel was celebrated for its charm and the skillful use of layered textures and strong visual lines.
The event brought together residents of Bincombe Park, the shortlisted artists, and an expert judging panel composed of representatives from local art groups, educational institutions, and the Lovell Homes team. This collaboration ensured a well-rounded evaluation of the entries, reflecting the community’s artistic diversity.
The Competition and Its Impact
The competition was launched by Lovell Homes in November, inviting residents, schools, and community art groups to showcase their creativity. Participants were encouraged to capture the beauty and pride of Weymouth through various mediums, including photography, sketching, collage, and painting.
Ross Field, regional managing director for Lovell in the South West, expressed his admiration for the high number of entries received—27 in total. He noted that this reflected both the talent in Weymouth and the community’s pride in their home. He extended his thanks to all participants and congratulated the winners on their achievements.
The evening was a celebration of art and creativity, with the winning pieces displayed on the Lovell website and in the Bincombe Park show home for the public to enjoy. This initiative not only supported the artists but also allowed the community to engage with the creative works.
