Sinitta’s I’m A Celebrity All Stars breakthrough marks South Africa redemption start

Sinitta’s Journey from Scaredy Cat to Champion

Sinitta, the iconic pop star, has come a long way since her infamous 2011 stint on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!. Back then, she became known for her constant screams of fear during the Bushtucker Trials, which led to millions of viewers voting for her to face even more terrifying challenges. However, in the first episode of the All Stars spin-off, which aired on Monday, Sinitta, now 62, showed off her growth and determination as she conquered her first challenge.

As the final arrivals during episode one, Sinitta and comedian Seann Walsh were tasked with grabbing stars 140ft above the ground in Level Up. The trial involved navigating a Go Ape-style high ropes course, with the first to clear the obstacles and make it to the other side—or without falling off—retrieving the star and being crowned the winner.

Despite starting off tentatively and Seann gaining an early lead, Sinitta turned things around and won the challenge as she sprinted across the final obstacles to snatch the victory. This moment marked the beginning of her redemption arc after becoming infamous for her previous season’s behavior.

Fans Express Their Excitement

Viewers were impressed by Sinitta’s tenacity and her growth from her previous season. Social media was flooded with comments such as:

  • ‘Sinitta going from professional screamer to winning her first trial of the series’
  • ‘Yess Sinitta! Show Seann how it’s done!’
  • ‘Well I didn’t think Sinitta would win that one! Well done girl’
  • ‘Who saw Sinitta winning that?! Well I am impressed’
  • ‘Here for Sinitta proving David Haye wrong and winning that challenge’
  • ‘Not Sinitta just doing an absolute runner’
  • ‘Yes get in there Sinitta’
  • ‘Sinitta beating Seann Walsh in a trial is just terrible. If I was Seann Walsh I would ask to go home’

Sinitta’s Honest Reflections

It comes after Sinitta revealed the reason she played up for the cameras during her debut appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2011—and the shock disappointment she faced on the show. The So Macho singer made it just 14 days during the stint 15 years ago as the second celebrity to wave goodbye, after becoming known for her ‘scaredy cat’ like nature in the face of the horrifying Bushtucker Trials.

But it wasn’t all genuine fear according to Sinitta, who admitted she did feel the need to play up for the cameras hoping it would earn her a treat in camp. Sitting down with Emma Willis and Rylan Clark on This Morning on Monday (April 6) ahead of the second series of the ITV All Stars spin-off, she revealed that she didn’t think the show ‘was real’ before taking part the first time.

Sinitta told Rylan and Emma: ‘I did actually think, you know I was on X Factor and I thought of Simon [Cowell], he’s not going to let them make me do it and they will feed me. I thought, do good TV and then they will feed you.’

Rylan, 37, chimed in: ‘I love it, so you thought, “I’ll go in the jungle, I’ll do my bit for the camera and then they will give me a McDonalds at the end of it”.’

Nodding along, Sinitta added: ‘And no, nothing, you really have to go collect your water, you really have to sleep outside with things running over your sleeping bag.’

She later recalled of her hopes to face less terrifying trials on her return to the show: ‘I told [the producers] what I wouldn’t do and what I would do. You have these long interviews, I’m older now, they have to be careful with me now because I’m older, but no. I believed them because I was really hesitating.’

Shaking her head, Sinitta added that this wasn’t to be the case: ‘They were like, you know, “we know now, you just say [what you don’t want to do], but no”.’

Luckily for Sinitta, this time round the celebrities were able to decide amongst themselves who went to do the trials by picking “who was best for it”. ‘I did trials and nobody considered I was best for it, but they have to let you do something, sometime,’ she joked of her attempts at getting stars.
