Major Update: College Pitcher’s Health After Severe Brain Injury in Car Crash

Oregon State Pitcher Tyler Bellerose Begins New Chapter in Recovery

Tyler Bellerose, a 19-year-old freshman pitcher for Oregon State, has taken a significant step forward in his recovery after being released from the hospital two weeks following a traumatic brain injury sustained in a car crash. The incident occurred on April 13, and since then, Bellerose has been undergoing intensive medical care.

Bellerose was recently transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility in Eugene, where he will continue his treatment. His family shared this update through a fundraising campaign on GiveSendGo, which was launched in the wake of the accident. The campaign has already raised nearly $100,000, reflecting the strong support from the community and fans.

“We’ve been taking things one moment at a time while leaning on faith, hope, and the incredible support around us,” the family wrote. “Tyler suffered a traumatic brain injury, and the road has been incredibly difficult. But through it all, he continues to show us what strength really looks like.”

The family also highlighted the outpouring of support from the Oregon State community. “Before we could even make it from Southern California, Tyler was surrounded by his Beaver family, the coaching staff and team, who stayed with him through the night. That kind of love is something we will never forget.”

In addition to the traumatic brain injury, Bellerose sustained a neck injury, along with swelling and bleeding near his spine. He also experienced limited movement in his left arm and shoulder, as well as no movement in his left leg following the crash.

“While this is a huge milestone, the journey ahead will be challenging,” his family explained. “Tyler continues to face limited movement on his left side, no movement in his left leg, and rehab will be an intense process focused on regaining strength and independence.”

Details about the crash remain unclear, but Oregon State University confirmed that they canceled a game against the University of Oregon the day after the incident. The decision was made in response to the situation involving Bellerose.

The Benton County District Attorney’s office told Oregon Live that they are unable to release records at this time due to the ongoing nature of the case.

Oregon State head coach Mitch Canham recently shared updates on Bellerose’s condition. “There’s been some progress,” Canham said. “Getting to hear his voice, he’s a competitor too. He wants to be out with the guys and practicing.”

“In time my friend, but he’s a tough cookie and he’s got a great family too. They’ve been right there with him.”
