Arsenal’s Momentum Gains Crucial Ground in Premier League Title Race
Mikel Arteta has expressed his belief that Arsenal’s Premier League title dream is still very much alive following a commanding 3-0 victory over Fulham. The win not only reclaims the momentum in the title race but also strengthens the Gunners’ position as they continue their pursuit of their first league title in 22 years.
Viktor Gyokeres was instrumental in the win, scoring twice with a goal in the ninth minute and another in the 40th. Bukayo Saka also contributed with a well-taken strike, giving Arsenal a three-goal lead at halftime. Although the team did not add to their tally in the second half, the result was a statement of intent in the fiercely contested championship battle.
The victory sees Arsenal six points clear of Manchester City, despite having played two more games. With just three matches remaining, the pressure is on for the Gunners to maintain their form as they look to clinch the title.

Arteta highlighted the significance of the win, stating that it sends a strong message to rivals like City, who face Everton on Monday. He said: “It says to us and to our dressing room that we keep the dream alive. Now we want to use that momentum, energy, and belief towards Tuesday, and we’re going to certainly need that.”
He added: “When I look at the atmosphere in the dressing room, it is tracking in the right direction. It was a critical game. We knew the importance of the win, and the manner that we’ve done it, and the goal difference in the Premier League. This game was going to carry a lot of energy towards the next match.”
The win also serves as an excellent build-up for Arsenal’s return leg against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals at the Emirates on Tuesday. The tie is currently level at 1-1, and Arteta emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum from Saturday’s performance.
Bukayo Saka’s Return Boosts Team Morale
Bukayo Saka made a significant impact in his return to the starting line-up, marking his first appearance since the Carabao Cup final in March. His injury, which saw him sidelined for several weeks, has now fully healed, and he showed no signs of discomfort during the match.
Saka provided the assist for Gyokeres’ opening goal and then scored himself in the 40th minute. Arteta praised his performance, saying: “He certainly made a difference. He made two actions that decided the game, and we know what he’s capable of.”
Arteta noted that Saka’s confidence is back, adding: “The pain from his (Achilles) injury is gone. Today he felt loose, he felt relaxed, and we had the Bukayo that we know back. He’s come back in the most important period of the season, and now he’s fresh, his mind is fresh, his hunger is at the highest possible height.”
Fulham Struggles with Injuries
Fulham manager Marco Silva revealed that some of his players were affected by a sickness bug ahead of the match. He stated: “There was a sickness virus at the training ground and it affected some players, and staff members too.” However, he declined to dwell on the issue during the press conference, emphasizing that it was not an excuse for the team’s performance.
Silva admitted that Fulham failed to meet the required standards in the first half, allowing Arsenal to dominate. “In the first half we made Arsenal’s life too easy because we were not at the level required,” he said.
