Australia’s Dominance in ICC Rankings
Australia has continued to hold a strong position in both the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings and the ICC Women’s ODI Team Rankings following the annual updates conducted on Friday. The latest rankings, which evaluate all matches played since May 2025 at 100% and those from the previous two years at 50%, have reinforced Australia’s lead in both categories.
In the Men’s Test Rankings, Australia maintains a 12-point advantage over South Africa, with a rating of 131 points compared to South Africa’s 119. England, on the other hand, has dropped to fourth place with 102 points after losing seven rating points. India now holds the third position with 104 points, surpassing England. New Zealand is just one point behind England in fifth place.
England’s decline can be attributed to the exclusion of several home series wins against New Zealand and South Africa, as well as a 3-0 series victory in Pakistan. These results were part of the period ending 30 April 2023, which is no longer included in the calculations.
Another notable shift is Pakistan overtaking Sri Lanka to take sixth position. This change is largely due to the removal of their 3-0 home series defeat to England and the reduced weight assigned to their 2-0 loss to Bangladesh in 2024.
Ireland has been excluded from the rankings because they have not played the required eight matches in the rating period. Both Ireland and Afghanistan need to play two more Tests in the next year to be included again.
Women’s ODI Rankings Remain Stable
In the Women’s ODI Rankings, the top six teams remain unchanged. Australia leads with a rating of 163, although their lead has decreased by four points. England has extended their lead over India from one to four points, with a rating of 128. India remains in second place with 124 points, followed by South Africa (100), New Zealand (93), and Sri Lanka (89).
Sri Lanka gained six points after the update, narrowing the gap with New Zealand from 13 to four points. Bangladesh has moved up to seventh position, overtaking Pakistan.
Thailand and the Netherlands have fallen out of the rankings for now due to not playing the necessary eight ODIs in the past three years. Thailand needs to play one more ODI, while the Netherlands requires two more to regain their positions.
Upcoming Updates
The ICC Men’s and Women’s T20I Team Rankings update will be announced on 5 May, and the Men’s ODI Team Rankings update will follow on 7 May.
