Australia stays top in Men’s Test and Women’s ODI Rankings after update

Australia’s Dominance in ICC Rankings

Australia has continued to showcase its dominance in the world of cricket, maintaining a strong lead in both the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings and the ICC Women’s ODI Team Rankings following the latest updates on Friday. These rankings reflect the performance of teams over a specific period, with matches played since May 2025 counted at full value and those from the previous two years counted at half value.

In the Men’s Test Rankings, Australia holds a commanding 12-point lead over South Africa, who remain in second place. England, however, has slipped to fourth position after losing seven rating points, falling behind India. New Zealand is just one point behind England, securing fifth place. The drop in England’s ranking can be attributed to the exclusion of certain home series wins against New Zealand and South Africa, as well as a 3-0 series win in Pakistan, which were part of the calculation period ending 30 April 2023.

Pakistan has made a notable move up the rankings, overtaking Sri Lanka to take sixth place. This improvement is largely due to the removal of their 3-0 home series defeat to England and the halving of the weight assigned to their 2-0 defeat to Bangladesh in 2024. Meanwhile, Ireland has dropped out of the rankings because they have not played the required eight matches in the rating period. Both Ireland and Afghanistan need to play two more Tests in the next year to regain their positions.

Women’s ODI Rankings Remain Stable

The Women’s ODI Rankings have seen minimal changes, with the top six teams remaining unchanged. Australia still leads the rankings, although their lead has slightly decreased by four points, bringing their rating down to 163. England has extended their lead over India by four points, reaching 128. India, South Africa, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka continue to hold their respective positions.

Sri Lanka has gained six points, narrowing the gap with New Zealand from 13 to four points. Bangladesh has also moved up the rankings, overtaking Pakistan to claim seventh position. Thailand and the Netherlands have temporarily dropped out of the table as they have not played the required eight ODIs in the past three years. Thailand needs to play one more ODI, while the Netherlands must play two more to regain their rankings.

Upcoming Updates

The ICC Men’s and Women’s T20I Team Rankings will be updated on 5 May, followed by the Men’s ODI Team Rankings update on 7 May. These updates will provide further insights into the performance of teams across different formats of the game.
