Phoebe Dynevor, the 31-year-old British actress known for her role in the Netflix series Bridgerton, recently sparked confusion among fans during a US TV interview. The star, who is recognized for her clear British accent, was seen using a different tone when discussing her mother on Live with Kelly and Mark. This unexpected shift in her speech pattern left some viewers puzzled.
During the interview, Dynevor spoke about her mother, Sally, who has been a prominent figure in British television. Sally is best known for her long-running role as Sally Metcalfe on Coronation Street. Dynevor mentioned: ‘I would grow up on sets going to see my mum on her soap, Coronation Street.’ However, as soon as Kelly began speaking, Dynevor’s accent seemed to take on a subtle American influence.
This change did not go unnoticed by UK viewers, who took to social media to express their thoughts. One user on X wrote: ‘What has happened to Phoebe’s accent…….’ Another commented: ‘I know you’re giving me your best American accent but I can still tell that you’re British.’ A third person suggested: ‘Phoebe Dynevor needs to work on her American accent.’
Phoebe’s Departure from Bridgerton
Dynevor’s appearance on the show came after she shared her reasons for not being part of Bridgerton since its second season. She also addressed whether she plans to return to the series in the future. Since its debut in 2020, Bridgerton has become a global phenomenon, with Dynevor returning for the second season before stepping away.
In an interview with Collider, Dynevor finally opened up about her absence. She said: ‘When the first season came out, they didn’t know what they needed to put in play. We were the ones that got away, in a certain way.’ She added: ‘I can only speak for myself, I would always come back if I was asked. I have not received a call. When I get that call, I will be there if I can.’
The Success of Bridgerton
Based on Julia Quinn’s book of the same name, Bridgerton first hit screens in 2020. Since then, four successful seasons have been released, with the latest one airing earlier this year in January. The show has continued to gain popularity worldwide, solidifying its place as one of Netflix’s most-watched series.

Sally, Dynevor’s mother, often expresses her pride for her daughter on social media. She is not the only one in the family to follow in her footsteps. Sally’s other daughter, Hattie, 22, joined the cast of Waterloo Road back in June 2023. Sally shares daughter Phoebe and Hattie with her husband, actor turned scriptwriter Tim. The couple also has a 28-year-old son, Samuel, who does not work in the entertainment industry.
