A Beloved Terrier’s Final Appearance on BBC Show
The beloved terrier Ted, known for his appearances on the BBC show Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, has left a lasting legacy in the world of television. Despite passing away at the age of 13, Ted is set to make a posthumous appearance in the next series of the program. Fans were heartbroken when the news of his death was announced, but there is still hope to see the lovable canine on screen.
Ted, a Patterdale Terrier mix, had become an integral part of the show since joining Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse in 2020. His presence on the show was so significant that he even appeared in the Christmas Special in 2025, where he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Ted’s journey with the show began after being rescued from a Surrey dogs’ home in 2013 at just six months old. He was then taken in by Lisa Clark, the show’s executive producer, who became his owner.
Although Ted passed away, his impact on the show and its fans will not be forgotten. The BBC has confirmed that Ted filmed one episode of season nine before his death, and this episode will air as part of the upcoming series. While the exact date of the transmission has not been announced, fans are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see their favorite canine once more.
In addition, fans have urged for Ted to be included in the In Memoriam segment during the TV BAFTAs, which will air on May 10. This tribute would be a fitting way to honor the dog’s contributions to the show and the lives of those who loved him.
Bob and Paul, the show’s hosts, shared their heartfelt tributes to Ted after his passing. Bob expressed his deep sadness, calling Ted “the best companion and the greatest little chum.” Paul also paid tribute, describing Ted as “a species all of his own” and saying he had gone to “the great briefcase emporium in the sky.”
Lisa Clark, Ted’s owner, reflected on the dog’s life, highlighting his role as both a family pet and a cherished companion on the show. She remembered how Ted enjoyed messing around on the riverbanks and playing tricks on Bob and Paul. She also mentioned that Ted is survived at home by Bo the Briard, another member of the family.
Ted’s influence extended beyond the screen. He was behind two best-selling books—A Pawtobiography and Pup Fiction—and was a social media sensation with over 200,000 followers. A third book, written by Ted, is expected to be released in 2026.
The show Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing first aired in 2018 and follows the comedic duo as they travel across the UK on fishing trips. The concept was born when Paul lured Bob to the riverbank for a bonding activity following a triple heart bypass surgery. Bob underwent the surgery in 2015 after discovering that 95% of his arteries were blocked.
In addition to discussions about their personal lives, health, and friendships, the show features a variety of celebrity guests, including comedian Lee Mack and TV presenter Ben Fogle. The program has become a beloved part of British television, with Ted playing a key role in its success.
