Delta Goodrem Shines at Eurovision 2026 Opening Ceremony
Delta Goodrem made a dazzling entrance at the 2026 Eurovision Opening Ceremony, capturing the attention of fans and media alike. The ARIA Award-winning singer, 41, arrived in Vienna, Austria, to represent Australia at the 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Her presence added a unique Australian touch to the global event.
Dressed in a sparkling gold mesh dress, Goodrem turned heads as she walked the turquoise carpet of the prestigious singing contest. She made her debut by strutting down the red carpet to a live orchestra version of AC/DC’s Thunderstruck, a moment that was undeniably Aussie.
Goodrem waved the Australian flag and blew kisses to fans while wearing a sweeping, gold-studded halter neck gown. She took time to pose with fans and sign autographs, calling the experience “couldn’t have been more perfect.”
On Instagram, she shared her excitement about the event, writing: “This was so magical!!!! I think I’m @eurovision’s biggest fan 😭🫶🏻🌓.” She captioned a video from the day, saying, “Not pictured is the epic live orchestra version of Thunderstruck I walked to 💥💥 couldn’t have been more perfect.”
Goodrem will perform her power ballad Eclipse on the world stage, following in the footsteps of last year’s representative, Go-Jo. The competition, which typically draws in millions of viewers, will take place from May 12 to 17. Goodrem is set to perform on Friday in semi-final two, with the grand finale on Sunday morning.

While Goodrem joins a talented lineup of Aussies who have represented Australia in the contest, including Dami Im, Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian, and Kate Miller-Heidke, there is one past singer she holds close to her heart. Goodrem told nine.com.au that she feels “honoured and grateful” to follow in the footsteps of her biggest inspiration, Olivia Newton-John, who passed away in 2022 after a battle with breast cancer.
Newton-John represented the UK when she performed at Eurovision in 1974. Goodrem said, “I feel so inspired by the fact that my dearest love, Olivia Newton-John, and Celine Dion have both been on the Eurovision stage. I wouldn’t be the artist I am today without them. They’re [my] inspiration. I’m really grateful that, as fate would have it, this year I get to be part of it as well.”
The singer also hinted at some surprises for her highly anticipated performance, including a potential cameo from her husband and band member, Matthew Copley. Goodrem confirmed to nine.com.au that he will be joining her in Vienna, before joking, “I can’t tell you any more details than that.” She added, “He’s very excited to be there and support, I’m very grateful for him to be there with me.”
Australia has never won Eurovision before, but came close in 2016 when Dami Im’s performance of The Sound of Silence put her in second place. Austria’s JJ won the coveted contest last year with the song Wasted Love. Each year, Eurovision is held in the most recent winner’s country.
Australia has been invited as a guest nation to the annual European song contest since 2015. The Eurovision Song Contest will air from 13-17 May exclusively on SBS and SBS On Demand.
