Former Reds player aims to shatter Adelaide’s hopes

Lachlan Brook Ready to Capitalize on Hostile Atmosphere in Crucial Semi-Final

Auckland FC’s former Adelaide United star, Lachlan Brook, is confident that the Black Knights will use the intense atmosphere of a packed Coopers Stadium to their advantage when they face the Reds in the semi-final second-leg match. Brook, who once was a fan favorite among Adelaide supporters, has no hesitation in potentially breaking their hearts in this high-stakes encounter.

The 25-year-old winger already made his mark by scoring Auckland’s goal in the first-leg draw at Go Media Stadium, which ended in a 1-1 tie. Brook reflected on his journey and the significance of returning to his former home ground.

“I’ve had a few big moments this season,” Brook said. “I want to step up whenever I can, hopefully again on Friday.”

Brook, who began his senior career with the Reds at just 16 years old before moving to England, described the return to Coopers Stadium as a “full circle moment.”

“Coopers is an amazing stadium. They’ve got great fans. It’s always very loud there and a great atmosphere – we’ll use it to our advantage,” he added. “We’ll hype ourselves up. For us, nothing really changes. We just need to go out and win.”

He emphasized that the 1-1 draw was not a disadvantage but rather a neutral point. “It’s almost not a bad thing going in at (1-1) now. Sometimes, if you go up with a 1-0 lead and you go into the next game, it can sort of change your mindset, but for us now, it’s the same mindset as before.”

Brook highlighted that the match is a must-win for Auckland. “It’s a must-win game. We know that we’re one win away from the grand final, so that’s all we’re focused on.”

Coach Steve Corica Remains Confident

Auckland coach Steve Corica also expressed confidence in his team’s ability to handle the pressure of playing at Coopers Stadium. He called the venue a “great place” to play, adding, “It’ll be even better when we do beat them.”

Corica acknowledged the strength of the Reds, describing them as a “good footballing team.” He noted that since Auckland joined the competition in 2024, the two teams have met five times, with four matches ending in draws and one victory for the Black Knights.

“Obviously, they’re a tough team, but we know what we have to do,” Corica said. The experienced coach, who led Sydney FC to A-League titles in 2019 and 2020, remains focused on the task ahead.
