Margot Robbie Clarifies Her Place of Birth
Margot Robbie, the 34-year-old Australian actress, has finally set the record straight about where she was born. For years, the internet has wrongly claimed that she was born and raised in the rural Queensland town of Dalby. However, in a recent interview with UK radio station Magic FM, she confirmed that her actual birthplace is a much larger city.
‘The internet has had my place of birth wrong like the whole time,’ Margot said. ‘It says I was born in Dalby, which is where my family is from, but I wasn’t.’ She revealed that she was actually born on the Gold Coast, a bustling city located in Queensland.
‘It’s not a stupid rumour, it’s just amazing that this far along it is still incorrect,’ she added. The Gold Coast is known for its beaches, shopping centres, and vibrant lifestyle, making it a stark contrast to the small town of Dalby, which has a population of around 12,000 people.

Dalby is situated approximately 260 kilometres from the Gold Coast and is a quiet, rural community. Although Margot was not born there, she spent a significant portion of her childhood in the town. In a 2014 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she shared her experiences growing up in Dalby.
‘My family is from a little country town called Dalby, which is three hours inland,’ she said. ‘It’s very small. When I go back to Dalby, everyone’s like, “What’s been happening with you?” and I’m like, “Oh, I did a movie and stuff, what’s been happening out here?” They’re like, “We’re getting a Big W.”‘
She joked that life moves at a slower pace in the small town, to the extent that getting a chain department store there was a milestone for locals. ‘For two years, all the town talked about was getting this Big W, and then it came, and then everyone would talk about how good Big W was. So for a really long time, that’s what’s been happening out at Dalby.’

A Career That Began in Australia
Margot rose to fame in 2008 when she was cast as Donna Freedman in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. This role helped launch her career and eventually led to her breakthrough in Hollywood with a starring role in The Wolf of Wall Street.
Her siblings, including fellow Neighbours star Cameron Robbie, still live in Australia. Despite moving to Los Angeles, Margot has never lost her connection to her homeland. In a January 2023 interview with Nine’s Today Show, she expressed how much she misses Australia.
‘It’s nice to be home and see the reaction,’ she said. ‘You know, you have the premiere and people scream out your name. I just love hearing my name with an Aussie accent too because in America everyone hits the R. They got ‘Marr-go’ not ‘Ma-go’.’
Keeping Ties to Australia
Margot also mentioned that she likes to keep up-to-date with all things Australian. ‘It’s just so special to be home. I always care about Australian things and what my friends and family are doing… I like talk about Australia all the time to everyone I work with,’ she added.

Her passion for Australia is evident in both her personal and professional life. Whether it’s through her work or her interactions with fans, Margot continues to celebrate her roots and share the unique culture of her home country with the world.
