Dianna Russini downplays Vrabel scandal with husband and friends

A Night Out in Manhattan

Dianna Russini and her husband, Kevin Goldschmidt, were seen enjoying a night out in Manhattan on Saturday, joining a group of friends at a bar near Madison Square Garden before attending a Bruce Springsteen concert. The event marked a return to normalcy for the couple after a recent scandal that dominated headlines.

Last month, a series of photographs surfaced showing Russini holding hands with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel at an adults-only resort in Arizona. This led to significant controversy, ultimately resulting in Russini resigning from her role as an NFL reporter at The Athletic.

Despite the scandal, the couple was seen in high spirits during their outing. According to a witness, they were part of a group of around 10-15 friends, enjoying food and drinks at Bourbon and Branch Bar. The witness noted that the pair appeared carefree and happy, with no signs of distress despite the ongoing media attention.

Russini, who resides in New Jersey, has consistently denied any affair with Vrabel, who is also married. In her resignation letter, she emphasized that she would not let the incident define her career. However, Vrabel took a different approach when he addressed the media ahead of the NFL draft in late April. He expressed accountability for his actions and acknowledged the impact on those he cares about, including his family, the team, and fans.

Vrabel later sought counseling and missed part of the draft, aiming to set a better example as a husband, father, and coach. Meanwhile, Russini deleted her social media accounts as more images of her and Vrabel began to circulate.

The most damaging images showed the couple being intimate as early as March 2020 at a bar in Tribeca, just a short distance from where Russini was seen with friends on Saturday. Video footage also emerged of a romantic boat trip that allegedly occurred months before she gave birth to her first son.

Russini gave birth to her first son, named Mike, in August 2021. TMZ reported that she named him after her brother, Michael Russini, not Vrabel. A source confirmed that Vrabel and Russini were the only people on the boat, supported by a signed company waiver reviewed by TMZ.

Another clip from a Barstool podcast episode revealed the couple’s playful dynamic. During a Family Feud-style game, Russini jokingly suggested that kissing a woman could get her in the mood. Vrabel responded enthusiastically, indicating his attentiveness to her advice.

A clip from a 2021 episode of ESPN’s Get Up also resurfaced, where Russini discussed her marriage. She described her husband as “average” and mentioned that she doesn’t post much about him. Her co-hosts gave her a chance to correct herself, and she clarified, “We’re average together.”

On Saturday night, it seemed the couple was moving past their recent issues, enjoying one of the hottest tickets in town for Springsteen’s sold-out tour. Vrabel has since returned to coaching with the Patriots, taking steps to build up for the 2026 NFL season. He recently oversaw rookie minicamp, while excitement for football’s return grew as the schedule for the new campaign was released.

The Patriots’ season begins with a Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks, followed by a home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who confirmed the return of Aaron Rodgers on Saturday night. Despite leaving her job at The Athletic, the Patriots have continued to support Vrabel as their head coach, recognizing his history with the team, including three Super Bowl wins as a player.
