Fran Drescher’s Strict Rule for Ex-Husband to Protect Her Love Life

Fran Drescher and Her Unique Friendship with Her Ex-Husband

Fran Drescher, the beloved star of The Nanny, has a unique relationship with her ex-husband, Peter Marc Jacobson. The two were married for 21 years before their divorce in 1999. Despite their split, they have maintained a strong friendship and often travel together. Drescher, now 68, shared some insights into their dynamic during a recent conversation.

One of the key points she mentioned was a strict rule she has in place when it comes to Jacobson. “He’s my gay ex-husband. He’s my best friend and he’s always around,” she said. “But we try and make sure that he’s not too much of a c**block.” While this phrase might be a bit humorous, it highlights the balance they maintain in their friendship.

Drescher also addressed whether having Jacobson around during her vacations could deter potential suitors. “That might have been, but for the most part, everybody knows who he is,” she added. This shows that despite their past, they have managed to keep their relationship open and accepting.

A Shared Creative Journey

Drescher and Jacobson co-created the popular sitcom The Nanny, which ran from 1993 to 1999. Their collaboration extended beyond their marriage, as they continued working together even after their divorce. In fact, they co-created another sitcom called Happily Divorced, which was based on their real-life experiences.

“I have a life partner and a work partner,” Drescher said. “He’s my life partner. He’s my work partner.” This statement underscores the deep connection they share, both personally and professionally.

A Life of Independence

Drescher has spoken openly about her preference for being single. “Selfishly, I don’t want to compromise,” she told People earlier this year. “That’s a lot of what it is when you’re with somebody… but the more you live on your own, the less you want to do that, and the less you need it if you happen to have a gay ex-husband.”

She also emphasized how long she has known Jacobson. “I have a gay ex-husband — live with it! But I’ve been with him since I was 15. Who can compete with that?” Drescher added. She noted that over the years, both she and Jacobson have grown significantly. “He’s not the same person. Neither one of us are who we were when we were married.”

A Supportive Presence

Jacobson frequently accompanies Drescher at events, often as her date. Recently, the pair attended the New York City Ballet Spring Gala together on May 7. Their presence together continues to show the strength of their bond.

Personal Relationships and Lifestyle

After her divorce from Jacobson, Drescher married Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai in 2014. However, the couple eventually split in 2016. Drescher has since discussed her approach to relationships, mentioning a “little rotation” of “friends with benefits” in an interview with Page Six.

In 2029, she also shared that she was casually seeing a mystery man. “We’re very comfortable with each other and we have our routine. It’s always the same experience. We really don’t go out, we don’t go to restaurants, we don’t date. What we do, we do great,” she said. This reflects her preference for a low-key lifestyle, where comfort and familiarity take precedence over traditional dating.
