Arne Slot Reflects on Mohamed Salah’s Legacy at Liverpool
Arne Slot, the head coach of Liverpool, has shared his thoughts on the future of Mohamed Salah and his impact on the club. As the Egyptian forward prepares to leave Anfield, Slot emphasized that he will remember Salah as the goal-scoring machine who played a pivotal role in securing the Premier League title last season.
Salah has been a key figure for Liverpool, but this season has seen some tensions between the player and the coaching staff. The forward recently made a subtle critique of Slot’s footballing philosophy, which sparked discussions among fans and media. However, Slot remains confident in the standards of training and performance within the squad.
“I don’t really know what it exactly means if you ‘like’ a post, yes or no,” Slot said, referring to players who publicly supported Salah’s comments online. “What I know, and that is my world, is to see how they train and I have not seen anything different compared to the rest of the season.”
When asked how he will remember Salah, Slot highlighted the importance of the forward’s contributions during the 2021-2022 Premier League campaign. “100 per cent last season, he said the most special thing I have won was last season’s Premier League title. Now I can safely say that was the most special thing I have won in my life so I will remember that and how important he was in that season for the club and as a result also for me with all the goals he scored.”
Liverpool’s Season and Future Plans
Despite a challenging season, Liverpool remains hopeful of qualifying for the Champions League. The team has had a disappointing campaign, but they are close to securing their place in the competition, barring a significant swing in goal difference against Bournemouth.
Slot also mentioned the return of key players like Alisson and Alexander Isak for the upcoming match against Brentford. The coach emphasized that being in a transitional phase should not be an excuse for underperformance.
“When I say we are in a transition I don’t mean to not expect anything from us,” Slot stated. “I hope nobody feels that. I was expecting, just as you all here, that we were more able to compete for things than we were this season. Although we lost in the FA Cup to the team that won the FA Cup and we lost in the Champions League to a team that not one team could beat over two legs.”

The coach acknowledged the challenges faced by the team this season, particularly in the Premier League, where they were never in contention for the title. “It is not saying, ‘Oh, don’t expect anything from this team’. Definitely not. This team has showed that we were already able to be at a certain level and we can only evolve this team. And if we can do the right things over the summer, things can only improve.”
Slot remains focused on the future of the club and the potential for growth. He believes that with the right strategies and improvements during the off-season, Liverpool can return to its winning ways. The coach is determined to maintain high standards and continue building a competitive team that can challenge for major titles in the coming seasons.
