Idris Elba Clarifies His Position on James Bond Role
Idris Elba has finally put an end to the persistent rumors about his potential involvement in the James Bond franchise. The 53-year-old actor confirmed that he was never considered for the role, despite years of speculation.
The auditions for the next James Bond have officially begun, five years after the last film featuring the iconic spy. During the premiere of his new movie Masters of the Universe, Elba was asked about his name being “thrown out” as a possible candidate for the role. He responded:
“My name’s not getting thrown out, no way. They’re going younger. And I wish them all the luck of the world. I can’t wait — it’s going to be amazing.”
He added, “I’m honestly not in the race ever. I wasn’t in the race in the first place.”
This clarification comes after fans speculated that Elba might be the next 007 following a video shared by him at Madame Tussauds. In the clip, he interacted with the wax figures of previous Bond actors, which led many to believe he was hinting at a potential return to the role.

Fans flooded the comments section with messages such as: “Not just the bond we want… the bond we NEED”; “This is the Bond we want”; and “You would be an AMAZING Bond.”
Daniel Craig’s final appearance as James Bond in No Time To Die in 2021 was a critical and commercial success, but fans have been eagerly awaiting news on who will take over the role. The announcement has been delayed due to a shift in creative control from the Broccoli family to Amazon MGM Studios.

Amazon MGM Studios, formed after Amazon acquired MGM in 2022, has remained quiet on the matter but has hinted at exciting developments for 007 fans in the coming months. Earlier this month, they announced that auditions for the role are underway, stating:
“The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”
Potential Candidates for the Role
Callum Turner is currently the bookies’ favorite according to Odds Checker. The 36-year-old has appeared in the Fantastic Beasts series as Theseus Scamander and received a BAFTA nomination for his role in the BBC thriller The Capture. He also starred in Apple TV’s Masters Of The Air and worked under George Clooney’s direction in The Boys In The Boat. Turner is also engaged to pop star Dua Lipa.
Next in line is Harris Dickinson, the 29-year-old set to play John Lennon in a forthcoming Beatles biopic. Dickinson began his career in British independent films and TV before moving on to major projects like Triangle Of Sadness, Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil, and The King’s Man. He also starred opposite Nicole Kidman in Babygirl and received a BAFTA TV Award nomination for A Murder At The End Of The World.
Australian actor Jacob Elordi follows, having gained fame through the teen romance The Kissing Booth and later appearing in Euphoria alongside Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney. He also starred in Saltburn and Priscilla. Elordi was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and recently appeared in the romantic film Wuthering Heights alongside Margot Robbie.
Another contender is Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has long been a fan favorite for the role. After starting his career as a child star, he gained international recognition for his role in Kick-Ass in 2010. He has since appeared in major franchises such as Godzilla, Marvel’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and 28 Years Later.
