Embarrassing Taunts at Gout Gout Unveil Game Recruit’s Flaws

A Controversial Figure in the World of Athletics

Fred Kerley, an American sprint star and former 100-metre world champion, has long been known for his unique personality. However, his recent actions have raised eyebrows, particularly after he extended an invitation to Australian sprint prodigy Gout Gout to join the Enhanced Games. This move, coupled with some unflattering remarks about Gout, has made it clear that Kerley is not just a bit off-kilter – he’s in need of serious attention.

During a media event at Resorts World in Las Vegas, where the inaugural Enhanced Games took place, Kerley was asked about Gout, the 18-year-old sprint sensation from Ipswich. His response was less than flattering, suggesting that Gout would be outmatched if he were to compete against him. “He’s still a kid. There would be so much in his head. I don’t think he can handle the pressure [on the world stage],” Kerley said.

Despite this, Kerley did offer some praise for Gout, acknowledging that he is “the next up” and “the future of the sport.” Yet, the tone of his comments left many questioning whether he was genuinely supportive or simply trying to undermine Gout.

The Career of a Champion

Kerley, who is 31 years old, has had a remarkable career. He is a two-time Olympic medallist and a three-time world championship gold medallist. He also won an individual world championship gold medal and was part of two gold medal-winning relay teams. Additionally, he starred in the Netflix documentary Sprint, which was released just before the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Gout, on the other hand, is just 18 years old. He recently graduated from school and has already made a name for himself as the fastest teenager in global history over 200m. With a reported $6 million deal with Adidas and comparisons to Usain Bolt, Gout is being touted as the next big thing in athletics. However, as Kerley himself admitted, Gout is still very much a kid.

Gout’s management has not commented on the situation, according to Wide World of Sports.

A Troubled Past and a Controversial Future

Before signing with the Enhanced Games, Kerley had a troubling incident in January 2025 when he was involved in a physical altercation with police in Miami. The incident, related to his car, resulted in a dropped charge, but only after Kerley agreed to take an anger management course.

His decision to join the Enhanced Games, a controversial new venture that encourages doping and conducts no drug testing, has drawn widespread criticism. The CEO of the United States Anti-Doping Agency, Travis Tygart, called the start-up a “dangerous clown show,” while the World Anti Doping Agency and the International Olympic Committee labeled it “utterly irresponsible and immoral.”

Among the most vocal critics of the Enhanced Games is Australian Olympic and world champion swimmer Cameron McEvoy. He has spoken out against the initiative, which was founded by Australian businessman Aron D’Souza.

A Legacy in Question

Kerley’s involvement with the Enhanced Games has tarnished his image, especially after he was banned for two years by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) in March for avoiding drug tests. The AIU described him as “reckless” in their statement announcing the ban.

Despite his achievements, Kerley’s recent actions have cast doubt on his role as a positive role model. His comments about Gout were seen as both sad and embarrassing, especially considering his previous influence on Australian sprinting.

In February 2023, before his fall from grace, Kerley visited Melbourne for the Maurie Plant Meet. During his two-week stay, rising Australian sprinters like Torrie Lewis and Aidan Murphy had the opportunity to train with him and learn from his experience. This visit has been credited, to some extent, with the recent resurgence of Australian sprinting.

It’s unfortunate that Kerley is no longer seen as a role model. His association with the Enhanced Games and his unkind remarks about Gout have left a lasting mark on his legacy.
