Idris Elba Clarifies His Role in James Bond Rumours
Idris Elba has finally put an end to the long-standing speculation about his potential involvement in the James Bond franchise. The 53-year-old actor confirmed that he was never even considered for the role, despite years of fans and media suggesting otherwise.
The recent announcement of auditions for the next James Bond has reignited interest in who might take over from Daniel Craig, whose final film, No Time To Die, was a massive success both critically and commercially. However, the search for a new 007 has been delayed due to changes in the franchise’s creative direction.
At the premiere of his new film Masters of the Universe, Elba was asked about the persistent rumours surrounding his name being linked to the role. He responded with clarity and confidence, stating:
“My name’s not getting thrown out, no way. They’re going younger. And I wish them all the luck of the world. I can’t wait — it’s going to be amazing.”
He added, “I’m honestly not in the race ever. I wasn’t in the race in the first place.”
Elba’s comments came after a December post by fans suggested he might be the next Bond. In the video, he was seen interacting with wax figures at Madame Tussauds, which led to a wave of excitement among fans.
The video, set to the iconic Bond theme, showed Elba standing at the end of a line of former 007 actors. Fans flooded the comments section with messages like: “Not just the bond we want… the bond we NEED,” and “You would be an AMAZING Bond.”
The Broccoli family, who have long controlled the James Bond franchise, handed over creative control to Amazon MGM Studios following their acquisition of MGM in 2022. This change has left fans waiting for more information on the next Bond.
However, Amazon MGM Studios recently confirmed that they are currently auditioning actors for the role. In a statement, they said:
“The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”

Harris Dickinson – The 29-year-old actor is set to play John Lennon in a forthcoming Beatles biopic. Dickinson also starred opposite Nicole Kidman in Babygirl and received a BAFTA TV Award nomination for A Murder At The End Of The World.
Jacob Elordi – Rising to fame through The Kissing Booth, Elordi later starred in Euphoria alongside Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney. He has also appeared in Saltburn and Priscilla.
