AFL mid-season draft update: Which players your club is targeting

Essendon and Richmond Set to Make Key Selections

Essendon is expected to make a significant move in the Mid-Season Draft on Tuesday by using their first pick on Jaxon Artemis. Meanwhile, Richmond is likely to use their second selection on Kye Annand from Geelong’s VFL side.

Recent discussions have suggested that North Melbourne could be interested in Annand due to their need for defensive depth. However, it seems the Tigers are set to secure his services. Annand’s absence from the Cats’ recent VFL game has been interpreted as a sign of confidence from his camp that he will be selected.

Western Bulldogs Focus on Tall Prospects

The Western Bulldogs have narrowed their focus to two tall prospects: former Port Adelaide player Tom Scully and West Adelaide’s Caleb May. Both players have also attracted interest from West Coast, with May appearing to be at the front of the queue for clubs seeking rucks.

Despite strong speculation that the Bulldogs might target Herbert, he is now seen as highly unlikely to be picked by them. Instead, Herbert is expected to be considered by West Coast. His recent performance, where he amassed 34 disposals after seemingly rolling his ankle early in the first quarter, has drawn attention.

While there was initial talk about the Tigers making two selections, it now appears they will only take one player.

Melbourne Targets a Tall Prospect

Melbourne is likely to use its second selection on a tall prospect. Tasmania’s Max Mapley and Frankston’s Harrison Coe are among those in contention. The club has also shown interest in Flynn Riley, who is viewed by several teams as the state league ruck with the most AFL traits.

Adelaide’s Interest in a Small Forward

Adelaide is reportedly keen on securing a South Australian small forward. Meanwhile, Port Adelaide has consistently been linked with ruck Alex Van Wyk in recent weeks.

Carlton Adjusts Strategy

Carlton was initially tipped to pass on the draft before the weekend, but they are now doing late work following Matt Carroll’s ACL injury on Saturday. The Blues are expected to target a front-half threat. Sam Toner has been linked to the Blues and has received late interest after delivering a career-best VFL game on Saturday.

Collingwood Considers Third Selection

Collingwood is considering whether to use a third selection as a replacement for Jamie Elliott. Previously, the club focused on addressing other areas of the ground. They are certain to take a ruck, with Harrison Coe being a strong contender.

The Magpies will also take a rebounder with their second selection, with Noah McMenamin, Jackson Voss, and Ethan Grace among those under consideration. Williamstown’s Hugo Hall-Kahan is also in the mix for multiple clubs.

Sandringham Dragons and Calder Cannons

Sandringham Dragons medium forward Ollie Griffin is seen as the leading prospect from the Talent League and has interest from several clubs. He has played for the Sandringham Zebras in recent weeks and demonstrated a strong desire to contest the ball alongside his aerial strength.

Athletic Calder Cannons defender Nick Staropoli is also in the mix, adding another name to the list of potential selections.
