Another mountain: Rebecca Gibney reveals tough family news

A Time of Reflection and Family

It has been nearly two months since Rebecca Gibney, known for her role in Packed to the Rafters, shared with her fans that she had taken a step back from life. She described feeling like she was “not fully living in the present” and that something needed to change. In her usual straightforward manner, she mentioned the importance of reconnecting with her husband, her dogs, and herself.

Rebecca had built a strong following on social media, where she openly discussed life, aging, and personal challenges. However, she decided to take a break, stepping away from the platform to focus on what truly matters.

A Difficult Update

In a recent update, Rebecca revealed that there have been some challenges behind the scenes as she has been taking time away from the public eye. One of the most difficult moments was the hospitalisation of her mother, Shirley.

“Mama Shirl is in hospital and has been dealing with a few issues but is doing well,” Rebecca shared. “Anyone that follows me knows and loves Mum so thought I should share that – please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she climbs yet another mountain.”

Rebecca has often spoken about her mother’s past, including the 15 years of abuse she endured at the hands of her father, Austin, before his death in 1982. Despite these hardships, Shirley has always taught Rebecca the value of kindness, focusing on others, and being grateful for what she has.

Their bond is incredibly strong, and Rebecca finds it especially painful to see her mother face health challenges. It’s not just her mother’s situation that has weighed on her, however.

Health Challenges for Lolly

Rebecca also shared that her dog, Lolly, has been experiencing some health issues. However, she added that Lolly is on the road to recovery after undergoing treatment.

In her Instagram post, Rebecca reflected on how she has been spending time with her eldest brother and her husband, Richard. She even recommended that others spend more time in the garden and less time on social media.

“So there you have it. A little bit of the past little while,” she said.

She also shared her perspective on the world, comparing it to The Truman Show at times. “The world is a bit nutso and it feels like we’re in a version of The Truman Show sometimes – but there are still good, good people out there, nature is awesome and if you focus on doing a wee bit of good every day – you’ll feel better. Even if it’s pulling some weeds away from a tiny native tree…”

Support from Her Husband

A source previously shared how Rebecca’s husband, Richard, encouraged her to take a break from social media. He was concerned after she let online trolls affect her confidence following her public ADHD diagnosis.

“Rebecca prides herself on being a survivor – and she’s done a lot of self-work rebuilding from the horrors of her past, but Richard can’t bear to see her confidence falter over a troll online,” the insider explained.

“Rebecca worked so hard to let only trusted loved ones into her world, so why not do it online?”

The source added that Rebecca would return to social media eventually, but for now, she is focusing on family and taking a break from negative influences.

“She and Richard have been on long dog walks and now talking about a new veggie bed in the garden,” the insider said. “They thrive in the outdoors and turning off the screens has revived them after a tough year. They’ve started laughing together again.”
