The DC Universe Expands with New Villain Teases
The DC Universe is still in its early stages, but James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has already sparked excitement among fans by hinting at the arrival of some major villains. Recently, he responded to a fan question on social media about several iconic DC characters, including Darkseid, Ultraman, General Zod, Doomsday, Black Adam, and Doctor Fate. Instead of revealing specific names, Gunn simply stated that two of them would appear “in not too long.” This cryptic response has set off a wave of speculation across the internet.
Darkseid: A Strong Contender for the DCU

Among the characters mentioned, Darkseid appears to be the most likely candidate for an upcoming appearance. As one of DC’s most legendary villains, the ruler of Apokolips has been the subject of much discussion in recent months. Behind-the-scenes developments have only fueled the theory that he may soon make his way into the DCU.
The upcoming animated series Mister Miracle will be part of the official DCU continuity. Its creator, Tom King, has confirmed that Darkseid will be part of the project. This makes him one of the few characters from the list who has a confirmed association with an upcoming DCU release.
For many fans, Darkseid’s eventual appearance is more of a “when” than an “if.” With the expansion of the DCU, introducing one of DC’s ultimate cosmic threats seems like a natural next step. Additionally, the title Gods and Monsters feels incomplete without Darkseid lurking in the background.
Could Ultraman Return to the DCU?

Another potential candidate is Ultraman. After his defeat by Superman, the villain’s fate was left intentionally ambiguous, leaving room for a future comeback. Rather than being killed off, Ultraman vanished mysteriously, and many fans hoped he might return as part of a larger Crime Syndicate plot.
If Ultraman were to reappear, it could bring the DCU’s evil multiversal counterparts into play, putting future heroes at a much higher risk. However, this remains speculative for now.
Other characters on the list, such as General Zod and Doomsday, have been prominently featured in recent live-action projects. Meanwhile, Black Adam is still closely tied to the previous DC film universe. For now, Gunn hasn’t provided any direct answers, but his latest tease suggests that the DCU is set to introduce more villains in the near future.
What’s Next for the DCU?
While the exact identities of the two upcoming villains remain a mystery, the anticipation is growing. If Darkseid and Ultraman are indeed on the way, it could mean that heroes in the DCU will soon face dangers they’ve never encountered before.
As the DCU continues to evolve, fans can expect more surprises, new storylines, and powerful antagonists to shape the future of the universe. Whether it’s through animated series, films, or other media, the DCU is poised to become even more expansive and dynamic in the coming years.
