A Night of Celebration and Support for John Farnham
Australian music legend John Farnham is set to be celebrated by a star-studded lineup at a special tribute concert in Melbourne. The event, taking place at the Rod Laver Arena on September 20, will bring together some of the biggest names in the music industry to honour Farnham’s incredible contributions to Australian culture.
Among the performers are Jimmy Barnes, Tina Arena, Human Nature, Keith Urban, and Jessica Mauboy. The concert aims to raise vital funds for Head and Neck Cancer Australia, an organisation that played a significant role in supporting Farnham during his own battle with cancer.
Farnham has always been humble about his achievements, expressing that the night should be about enjoying the music and having a good time. “This night isn’t about me — it’s about giving something back and supporting a cause that means a great deal to me,” he said.

After undergoing a 12-hour operation to remove a cancerous tumour from his mouth in 2022, Farnham took a step back from public life. However, he has since received confirmation from his medical team that he is now completely clear of cancer.
The concert will feature more than 120 artists, including international stars such as Celine Dion, Hugh Jackman, and Richard Marx. Dion and Jackman will perform remotely, adding to the spectacle of the evening.
Dion shared her admiration for Farnham, calling him “one of the great voices of the world.” She spoke of the memories they shared on stage, highlighting his generosity, humour, and the impact of his voice. “It’s such an honour and a privilege for me to be included to celebrate the extraordinary legacy John has given to music,” she said.
Tony Cochrane, the promoter of the event, explained that getting the show off the ground was no small task. “John wasn’t so keen for it, (he) didn’t think he deserved the attention,” Cochrane said. He added that part of the motivation for the concert was to raise money for Head and Neck Cancer Australia.
Victoria’s Minister for Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos, praised the event as a major boost for the state’s entertainment economy. “This is going to be an unforgettable night, with stars from around the world paying tribute to an Australian living legend,” he said.
Tickets for the concert will go on sale at 10am on Tuesday, June 2, through Ticketek Australia. Fans are encouraged to secure their seats early, as this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate one of Australia’s most beloved musical icons.
