Sterling arrested for drug driving after Lamborghini crash

Raheem Sterling Arrested on Drug Driving Suspicions

Former England footballer Raheem Sterling has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving following an incident involving his Lamborghini. The 31-year-old was reportedly involved in a collision on the M3 motorway, which led to him being pulled over by police at 9am on Thursday.

Hampshire Police confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no injuries were reported. The driver, identified as a man from Berkshire, was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit due to drugs, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C drug, and failing to provide a specimen. He has since been bailed while further investigations continue.

A source close to Sterling shared insights into the challenges he has faced in recent years, stating: “The psychological strain that has been put on him is immeasurable. Isolated. The second he touches a ball, being told he’s a flop and he’s finished. Mocked. Heckled.”

The source added that Sterling moved to the Netherlands in an attempt to escape the negativity and rediscover his passion for football. However, the challenges followed him, making it an extremely difficult period for the player.

Sterling’s representatives have not provided any comment on the matter.

Career Decline and Moving On

Sterling’s career took a significant downturn after he left Manchester City for Chelsea in the summer of 2022. Having won 10 major trophies with City, including four Premier League titles and the FA Cup, he joined Chelsea for a reported £50 million on a five-year deal worth £325,000 per week.

However, his time at Stamford Bridge was marked by struggles, leading to him being placed in former manager Enzo Maresca’s ‘bomb squad.’ He trained away from the first team for over six months after falling down the pecking order. A loan spell with Arsenal during the 2024-25 season did not yield the desired results, and his contract with Chelsea was eventually terminated.

In February, Sterling signed with Feyenoord in the Netherlands, where he made eight appearances without scoring before the end of the season. His contract with the Dutch club has now expired.

Early Career and International Contributions

Sterling first gained recognition at Liverpool as a teenager before moving to Manchester City in 2015. He played 82 times for the England senior team, with his last appearance coming in the 2-1 defeat by France in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

Hampshire Police have not yet provided further details on the ongoing investigation, and Daily Mail Sport has reached out for additional information.
