“I Just Crash and Burn”: Joe Jonas Reveals Embarrassing ‘The Morning Show’ Audition Tale

Joe Jonas Shares the Awkward Audition for ‘The Morning Show’ That Left Him Flustered

During a recent episode of their podcast, ‘Hey Jonas!’, Joe Jonas opened up about one of the most embarrassing moments in his career—his audition for the hit Apple TV series, ‘The Morning Show’. The show, which stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, is known for its high standards and intense casting process.

Joe recalled how he arrived early for his audition, only to be led into what he described as “the saddest room you can imagine.” The room was so poorly soundproofed that he could clearly hear other actors auditioning for the same role. “I could hear clear as day all the guys auditioning, and these guys were crushing it,” he said.

When it was finally his turn, things didn’t go well. “I go in and I just crash and burn. It was literally like, I don’t even know what I’m auditioning for… It was just gone for me. And it was such a bad audition,” he admitted.

Nick Jonas, always the supportive brother, quickly reassured him. “Bad auditions happen,” he said before asking, “Would you say that’s your worst audition?” Joe thought back to his experience auditioning for the musical ‘Wicked’. “I think also ‘Wicked’ was a bit of a strange one,” he said, recalling how he could hear incredible theater vocalists during his own audition.

Both Nick and Joe had previously tried out for the role of Fiyero in ‘Wicked’, but the part ultimately went to Jonathan Bailey. “Joe and I both went out, and we didn’t get it. But that’s the life of an actor,” Nick told Variety.

The Unforgettable ‘Camp Rock’ Audition Tape

Another audition moment that remains a legend among Jonas Brothers fans is the self-tape Joe created for his role in ‘Camp Rock’. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2025, the brothers reflected on how they had to create a video under extremely limited conditions.

At the time, the Jonas Brothers were constantly on tour, promoting their hit song ‘Year 3000’. When Joe received a call to audition for Disney, the band had no choice but to improvise. “We used this thing called a Flip Vid—my millennial folks out there, you might know what it is,” Nick explained.

“It was like the first-gen of a camera that had a USB connected, and you could upload videos. We did that, but it looked terrible.” Kevin added that the hotel lighting wasn’t helping at all. “I literally held a lamp like this, pointed at him like a spotlight,” he laughed.

The tape ended up being so poor that Disney executives called their dad, who was one of their managers at the time. “They were like, ‘Is this a joke? This is the worst-looking video we’ve ever seen,’” Nick recalled.

Despite the low quality, Joe still landed the role. “We got a better tape, and he got the job,” Nick said.

Looking back on the experience, Kevin joked, “I wish we could find this footage,” while Joe added, “Disney has it somewhere.” Fans will have to keep hoping that one day, these iconic tapes will resurface.

Other Embarrassing Moments from the Jonas Brothers

While Joe’s audition for ‘The Morning Show’ was a humbling experience, it wasn’t the only awkward moment in the Jonas Brothers’ careers. From their early days performing in small venues to their more recent ventures in acting and music, the brothers have had their fair share of mishaps.

One of the most notable was their audition for ‘Camp Rock’, which turned out to be a learning experience. Their lack of resources forced them to think creatively, and while the result wasn’t perfect, it ultimately helped them land a major role.

Other embarrassing moments include off-stage mishaps, awkward interviews, and even some questionable fashion choices. But despite the blunders, the Jonas Brothers have always managed to turn their experiences into something positive.

Their willingness to laugh at themselves and share their stories has made them relatable to fans around the world. Whether it’s a bad audition or a funny memory, the Jonas Brothers continue to remind us that even the biggest stars have their moments of vulnerability.
