Asus Launches Exclusive ROG Xbox Ally X20 with OLED and AR Glasses

Computex 2026 was a big event for the gaming industry, with several new handheld consoles making their debut. Among them were the Acer Predator Atlas 8 and the MSI Claw EX AI+. However, the most exciting announcement came from Asus, which unveiled the ROG Xbox Ally X20. This limited-edition model was launched to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ROG brand. The new device is an upgraded version of previous Ally models, featuring a redesigned chassis, improved internal components, and a more advanced display. In addition, Asus has included the ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses as part of the package, making it one of the most feature-rich portable gaming systems available.

Key Specifications and Features of the ROG Xbox Ally X20

One of the most significant upgrades in the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is the switch to a 7.4-inch OLED panel. This replaces the LCD screens found in earlier versions of the Ally line. The new display offers Full HD resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 0.2ms response time. It also supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, ensuring smooth gameplay without screen tearing.

The display is VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certified, which means it delivers excellent brightness and color accuracy. It supports Dolby Vision and can reach up to 1,400 nits of peak brightness in HDR mode. To protect the screen, Asus has used Gorilla Glass Victus and Gorilla Glass DXC coatings, which help reduce reflections and enhance visibility in bright environments.

Powerful Performance Inside

Powering the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, which features eight cores and 16 threads. It is paired with integrated Radeon graphics and an XDNA NPU that can deliver up to 50 TOPS of AI performance. The device comes with 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, providing ample storage and fast data access.

Asus has also redesigned the cooling system to better manage temperatures, especially around the OLED display. This ensures that the device maintains high performance even during long gaming sessions without overheating.

Enhanced Control and Connectivity

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 introduces several improvements to its control scheme. One notable feature is the transformable D-pad, which can switch between four-way and eight-way modes depending on the game. The TMR joysticks are designed for greater precision, making them ideal for competitive gaming. Additionally, the face buttons have been redesigned for a more responsive feel.

In terms of connectivity, the device includes Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4, allowing for fast and stable wireless connections. It also features dual USB Type-C ports, a microSD card slot, and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. The device is powered by an 80Wh battery, which should provide sufficient power for extended use.

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 runs Windows 11 Home and includes a dedicated Xbox mode. It also supports Microsoft’s Auto Super Resolution technology, which enhances visual quality without sacrificing performance.

Availability and Additional Features

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 has a translucent black design with visible internal accents and a rubberized grip finish. Asus has confirmed that the device will be released later this year, although pricing details have not yet been announced. The retail package will include three months of Xbox Game Pass Premium, depending on regional availability.

This release marks a significant milestone for Asus, combining cutting-edge hardware with innovative features to create a powerful and versatile handheld gaming console. With its impressive specifications and unique design, the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is sure to attract both casual and hardcore gamers alike.
