The Masters 2026: Dates, Streams, and Star Players

Rory McIlroy’s New Chapter in Golf

Rory McIlroy, after finally securing the green jacket at the Masters, has found himself contemplating what comes next. “What are we all going to talk about next year?” he asked, hinting at the long journey he had undertaken to complete his career Grand Slam. Now, with that goal achieved, McIlroy is looking ahead and reflecting on what still drives him.

“What motivates me? What gets me going? What do I still want to achieve in the game? I think that’s the story,” he said. “And there’s still a lot that I want to do. … I felt like the career Grand Slam was my destination, and I got there, and then I realized it wasn’t the destination.”

McIlroy is now aiming for something even more rare: becoming only the fourth player to win back-to-back Masters titles. His pursuit of this goal places him among the elite in the golf world, where the competition is fierce and the stakes are high.

The Masters Field and Key Players

Scottie Scheffler remains the betting favorite, having already won the Masters twice and holding the No. 1 ranking for nearly three years. Despite a recent quiet spell, his performance in the season opener has kept him in the spotlight.

Bryson DeChambeau, who recently won two tournaments on the Saudi-funded LIV Golf circuit, is also in contention. Known for his unique approach to the game, DeChambeau’s presence adds another layer of excitement to the tournament.

Despite the changes sweeping through the sport, the Masters continues to offer a sense of tradition and normalcy. As the first full week of April approaches, the event marks the start of the golf season for many fans and players alike.

Traditions and Ceremonies

The Masters begins on Thursday, as it always has, keeping its place on the calendar. This year, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Tom Watson will once again take part in the ceremonial tee shots at 7:25 a.m., followed by Johnny Keefer hitting the first shot that counts.

Tee times were announced on Tuesday, setting the stage for the competition. The Par 3 Contest, held on Wednesday, has evolved from a clinic into a showcase for both seasoned and young players, including caddies who are often the children of past champions.

Field Size and Notable Absences

The field consists of 91 players, maintaining the Masters’ tradition of keeping the number under 100. This practice dates back to 1967 and reflects Augusta National’s preference for a more exclusive competition.

Tiger Woods will be absent from the Masters for the second consecutive year. He was arrested in March on charges related to driving while intoxicated, though no alcohol was found in his system. Woods has since entered a plea of not guilty and is taking an indefinite leave to seek treatment.

Phil Mickelson is also missing the event for the third time as a professional. He cited personal health matters within his family as the reason for his absence, which has also led to his participation in only one of the last five LIV Golf events.

This is the first time since 1994 that neither Woods nor Mickelson will be at Augusta National. Back then, Woods was still in high school, and Mickelson had injured his leg skiing before the tournament.

Viewing Options and New Features

Fans have a variety of options to watch the Masters. Prime Video will broadcast the Thursday and Friday rounds starting at 1 p.m. ET, with ESPN taking over at 3 p.m. on weekday rounds through 7:30 p.m. On weekends, Paramount+ will begin coverage at noon, and CBS will carry live action from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Live video channels are available on the official Masters website, offering features such as live action from specific holes, the Amen Corner (Nos. 11-13), and the 15th and 16th holes. Prime Video will also provide a stats-enhanced stream on Amen Corner.

Course Adjustments and New Facilities

While the blooms may be peaking slightly earlier than usual, players have long suspected minor adjustments to the course. One notable change is the reduction of the front of the 17th tee by 12 yards, with the tee marker relocated to reflect a scorecard distance of 450 yards.

A new Player Services Building, located behind the driving range, has also been introduced. This three-level structure includes an indoor parking garage, a gym and recovery room, a large locker room, and dining facilities for players, their families, and support staff.

New Concessions and Excitement

For those lucky enough to secure tickets, the Masters has introduced a new concession: the Candy Bar. This addition adds a touch of fun and novelty to the fan experience.

Betting Odds and Rising Stars

Scottie Scheffler remains the top betting favorite at +550, according to BetMGM Sportsbook. Jon Rahm follows at +1000, with McIlroy and DeChambeau tied at +1200. Ludvig Aberg and Xander Schauffele are listed at +1400.

Among the 22 newcomers, Chris Gotterup stands out. He is only the third player since World War II to win four times before playing in his first Masters. His qualification came through victory at the Scottish Open, with additional wins at the Sony Open and Phoenix Open this year.

Three players from the top 20 in the world are making their debut, including Ben Griffin, who played in his first Ryder Cup last September, and Jacob Bridgeman, a Riviera winner who attended Clemson University.

Other participants include Kristoffer Reitan of Norway and Rasmus Neergaard-Peterson of Denmark, marking a record eight players from Nordic countries.
